Porsche is preparing a facelift for the 911 GT3 RS, as revealed by recent sightings of an undisguised test vehicle abroad. The updated model shows only minor visual changes, but significant mechanical updates are expected. The front of the 911 GT3 RS remains mostly unchanged, with only a slight alteration to the front bumper.
Key Highlights
- Porsche 911 GT3 RS facelift spotted with minor exterior changes
- Rear design updated with four fins and new air chamber for improved cooling
- Facelift may introduce turbocharged engine and 48V mild-hybrid system
- Powertrain updates expected to meet Euro 7 emission standards
- GT2 RS may receive 4.0-litre turbo engine with around 1,000bhp
Design and Exterior Changes

The most noticeable updates are at the rear. The current 911 GT3 RS features three fins on each side of the rear, while the facelifted version increases this to four fins. This change appears cosmetic, but it is paired with a new air chamber located below the tail light bar. This combination suggests improvements to the car’s cooling system, possibly to support a new engine configuration.
Expected Powertrain and Hybrid System
The Porsche 911 GT3 RS has traditionally used a naturally aspirated engine, while turbocharged engines have been reserved for the 911 GT2 RS. However, the new facelift may introduce a turbocharged engine for the GT3 RS. International reports indicate that Porsche could add a 48V mild-hybrid system to the GT3 RS to meet Euro 7 emission standards.
Porsche has already developed a turbo-hybrid powertrain, as seen in the 911 Carrera GTS T-Hybrid. This system uses a 3.6-litre flat-six engine producing 533bhp and 570Nm of torque. The Carrera GTS T-Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 100kmph in three seconds and has a top speed of 312kmph. Similar performance figures are expected for the upcoming 911 GT3 RS turbo.
Future Developments and Performance
While the facelifted 911 GT3 RS does not feature major exterior changes, the introduction of a turbocharged and hybrid powertrain could mark a significant shift for the model. The 911 GT2 RS is expected to receive a 4.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which could deliver around 1,000bhp. This would further distinguish the GT2 RS from the GT3 RS in Porsche’s lineup.
