Royal Enfield is developing a new Himalayan 440, which will serve as a more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450. Sources indicate the Himalayan 440 will use the same 440cc engine as the Scram 440. This move comes after the discontinuation of the Himalayan 411, which left a gap in the brand’s entry-level adventure motorcycle lineup.
Key Highlights
- Royal Enfield developing Himalayan 440 as a more affordable ADV option
- Himalayan 440 expected to use the 443cc engine from the Scram 440
- Anticipated price between Rs 2.30 and Rs 2.40 lakh ex-showroom
- Features likely include telescopic fork and monoshock suspension
Himalayan 440 to Fill Market Gap
The Himalayan 450 currently starts at Rs. 3.20 lakh (ex-showroom), making it a premium offering. Its seat height is 825mm, which is taller than the Himalayan 411’s 800mm. The discontinuation of the Himalayan 411 removed a popular, accessible option for touring enthusiasts. Royal Enfield responded by updating the 411 platform and launching the Scram 440 with a larger engine.
The Scram 440 uses a 443cc, air/oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine produces 25.4bhp and 34Nm of torque. The Himalayan 440 is expected to use this same powertrain, offering similar performance and reliability.
Expected Features and Pricing
The new Himalayan 440 will likely retain many features from the discontinued Himalayan 411. It is expected to have a telescopic fork and monoshock suspension, with 190mm front and 180mm rear travel. The wheel setup will likely include a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel, both fitted with tube tyres.
Royal Enfield has not officially confirmed details or specifications for the Himalayan 440. However, industry sources suggest the price will be slightly higher than the Scram 440. Expected pricing is in the range of Rs. 2.30 to Rs. 2.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Himalayan 411 was popular among touring riders for its simplicity and ease of handling. By introducing the Himalayan 440, Royal Enfield aims to attract riders looking for an accessible adventure motorcycle with proven capability. The new model could help the brand regain its position in the entry-level ADV segment.
