Royal Enfield, known for its classic motorcycles, has recently introduced their Guerrilla 450. This new model is part of their Sherpa 450 series, focusing on high-performance single-cylinder bikes. Now, the spotlight is shifting to their 650cc twin-cylinder range, with exciting news about a new model: the Interceptor Bear 650.

Scram 650 Design Trademarked

The launch of Royal Enfield's 650 Twins, including the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, marked a significant shift for the brand. These models introduced a smoother engine, advanced oil cooling, and a 6-speed gearbox. With a 90% market share in the 500cc+ segment, Royal Enfield has established a strong presence in India.

Royal Enfield is now set to launch a new scrambler-style motorcycle based on the 650 platform. Known as the Scram 650, this new bike might be officially named the Interceptor Bear 650, as the name has already been trademarked. This name suggests it will build on the popular Interceptor 650 model.

Design and Features

The Interceptor Bear 650 is expected to be one of Royal Enfield’s most feature-rich and lightest 650cc bikes. It will retain many design elements from the Interceptor 650 but with several enhancements. Key features include:

  • USD Telescopic Front Forks: For improved suspension and handling.
  • LED Turn Indicators: At the front and rear for better visibility.
  • Scrambler-Style Braced Handlebar: For a rugged look and improved control.
  • Dual-Purpose tyres: CEAT tyres are expected, with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres possibly available on global models.
  • Single-Sided Exhaust: This setup is designed to reduce weight, aiming for a bike weight under 200 kg.

Engine and Performance

The Scram 650, or Interceptor Bear 650, will feature the same 648cc parallel-twin engine as its siblings. This engine produces 47 bhp and 52 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. The engine will be tuned to complement the bike’s unique characteristics and the new exhaust system.

Technology and Pricing

The new scrambler will include Royal Enfield’s Tripper Dash, also seen in the Guerrilla 450 and Himalayan 450. This screen offers Google Maps, music controls, and connectivity features through a dedicated smartphone app.

In terms of pricing, the Interceptor Bear 650 is expected to cost between Rs 3.2 lakh and Rs 3.3 lakh (ex-showroom). It will be an affordable option in the multi-cylinder scrambler category, combining decent performance with a retro charm.

The official launch of the Interceptor Bear 650 is anticipated by the end of 2024 or early 2025, promising to add an exciting new option to Royal Enfield’s 650cc lineup.
