Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has opened a new 33,000 sq. ft. wing at its Technology Centre Pune (TCP) in Baner. The facility can accommodate over 250 engineers and aims to boost research and development operations in India.

The new wing will focus on vehicle development, platform engineering, software, and mobility solutions. With this expansion, the company’s engineering workforce in Pune now exceeds 450 employees. These teams work on both domestic and international projects.
Expansion Details and Objectives
The Baner unit complements the existing TCP facility at Chakan, which has operated since 2019. The centre has contributed to the development of models such as the Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the sub-4-meter SUV Kylaq.
According to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, the expansion aims to strengthen localization, support exports, and integrate Indian engineering into the global R&D network of the Volkswagen Group. The company plans to use the new capacity to advance digitalization, automation, and safety technologies. This will help the company respond faster to market requirements.
Company Operations and Achievements
SAVWIPL manages Indian operations for brands including Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche. The company operates manufacturing plants in Chakan and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. These plants have a combined annual production capacity of 315,000 units.
The group has reported cumulative exports of over 700,000 vehicles to more than 40 countries. In 2025, the company crossed 2 million locally produced vehicles in India.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of SAVWIPL, stated that the new facility will support development in digitalization, automation, and safety. He said it will also enable faster execution and better alignment with market needs.
The expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing its research and development presence in India. It also supports the Volkswagen Group’s global engineering and export strategies.
