Skoda has revealed design sketches of its upcoming compact electric vehicle, the Epiq, ahead of its global debut on 19 May. The Epiq showcases the latest evolution of Skoda's Modern Solid design language, which the company has been developing over recent years.
Key Highlights
- Skoda Epiq compact EV debuts globally on 19 May
- Three battery options with up to 430km range and fast charging in 23 minutes
- Interior features dual digital screens and toggle switch controls
- Level-2 ADAS and seven airbags standard across all variants
Key Features and Interior Design
The Skoda Epiq features a minimalistic interior with a two-spoke steering wheel and dual digital screens. Unlike some recent Skoda models, it does not include multi-function rotary dials. Instead, the Epiq uses multiple toggle switches for various functions. Below the dashboard, there is a large wireless charger that also serves as a storage space. The steering wheel incorporates scroll wheel controls, similar to those found in the Kushaq, Slavia, and Kylaq models.
Performance, Safety, and Specifications
At launch, the Epiq will be available with three battery pack options: the 35, Epiq 40, and Epiq 55. The 35 variant comes with an 85kW motor, the 40 offers a 99kW motor, and the 55 is equipped with a 155kW motor. The Epiq can achieve a maximum range of 430 kilometers on a single charge. DC fast charging technology enables the battery to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 23 minutes.
Safety features include level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and seven airbags as standard across all variants. The Epiq measures 4.17 meters in length and has a wheelbase of 2.60 meters, positioning it in the compact EV segment.
Market Position and India Plans
Skoda has indicated that an India-specific electric vehicle would need to be locally assembled to be viable. While the Epiq's current global specifications may not be directly suitable for India, the model provides insight into Skoda's future plans for compact EVs in the country. The expected price range for the Epiq is between Rs. 18 lakh and Rs. 22 lakh.
