Kia's much-anticipated compact SUV, the Clavis, has been caught on camera for the first time in Korea, revealing intriguing details about its design and features. Positioned between the Sonet and the Seltos in Kia's lineup, the Clavis promises to bring a fresh perspective to the compact SUV segment. The spy shots confirm that the Clavis boasts of a compact footprint with distinctive upright aesthetics, setting it apart from its siblings.

Clavis India Launch Expected Next Year with Multiple Powertrain Options

Sources indicate that the Kia Clavis is slated for an India launch next year, offering consumers a versatile range of powertrain options. The model is expected to bridge the gap between the Sonet and Seltos, catering to a growing demand for compact SUVs in the Indian market.

What the Spy Shots Reveal:

Despite being under camouflage, the spy shots provide a glimpse into the Clavis's design elements. The SUV exhibits a resemblance to the larger crossover but shares distinctive features with newer Kia models. Vertical headlamps, a unique daytime running lamp signature, and a design akin to the Kia EV9 SUV characterize the Clavis. Notably, the test mule sports MRF tires, a clear indicator of its "Made in India" origins.

While the specific model seen in the spy shots may differ from the Indian variant, it is evident that Kia intends to pack the Clavis with an excess of features. Cooled seats, a 360-degree camera setup, a panoramic sunroof, front and rear parking sensors, and other creature comforts adorn the Clavis. On the safety front, it is expected to feature six airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, and the possibility of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) in higher variants.

What Else is Known?

Insiders suggest that the made-for-India Kia Clavis will globally debut by the end of 2024, hitting the market in early 2025. The SUV is set to offer multiple front-wheel-drive (FWD) powertrain options, including Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Electric Vehicle (EV), and hybrid variants. The Clavis EV, based on the same platform as the ICE models, is anticipated to follow the initial launch. Kia India plans to manufacture nearly 1 lakh units of the Clavis annually, with 80 percent of the volume dedicated to the ICE range, some of which will be earmarked for exports.
