Tata Motors is reportedly developing a new flagship SUV, codenamed Tata Blackbird. Rumored to be a joint project between India's Tata Motors and China's Chery Motors, the Blackbird was initially intended to be based on the Chery Tiggo, re-engineered for the Indian market. However, this project was called off, making the Blackbird just an internet rumor for now. If launched, the Blackbird will be Tata's most premium SUV.
Design & Exterior
The Tata Blackbird is expected to feature Tata's IMPACT 2.0 design language, with futuristic elements such as a connected LED light bar at the front and rear. Following the design trend seen in the new Safari facelift, the Blackbird might also sport 19-inch or even larger 20-inch alloy wheels, enhancing its robust and stylish appearance.
Features & Safety
The rumored Tata Blackbird will be equipped with the latest safety and technology features, including:
- Camera and radar-based Level 2 ADAS
- Larger infotainment touchscreen and driver displays
- Premium sound system
- Multi-zone climate control AC

It's expected to be based on Tata's OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) Architecture, derived from Land Rover's D8 platform. This suggests the Blackbird could achieve a 5-star safety rating, similar to the Tata Harrier and Safari.
Rivals
If launched, the Blackbird will be positioned in the 30 lakh plus price segment, above the current Tata Safari. It will compete with high-end SUVs like the Skoda Kodiaq, VW Tiguan, MG Gloster, and Toyota Fortuner, aiming to be Tata Motors' flagship product.
Price Expectations
The Tata Blackbird is speculated to be priced between Rs. 11.00 - 15.00 Lakh (ex-showroom) in India. In New Delhi, the on-road price is expected to start at Rs. 11.00 Lakh. The EMI starts at ₹20,312 per month with a down payment of ₹1,10,000 for a 5-year tenure at an interest rate of 8.75%, though this may vary depending on the bank.
The Tata Blackbird remains a speculative project with no concrete developments since the initial rumors. As its launch date remains uncertain, more details on features and pricing are expected to emerge if Tata Motors decides to proceed with this flagship SUV.
