Official ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures for the Tata Sierra have emerged following a Right to Information (RTI) request. These figures come months after the SUV's launch in November 2025, when Tata Motors had not provided mileage data. The new information clarifies the Sierra's real-world fuel efficiency for buyers.
Key Highlights
- Tata Sierra turbo-petrol variant certified at 13.5 km per litre by ARAI
- The diesel variant achieves higher certified mileage of 18.8 km per litre
- Over 10,000 units delivered since January 2026, with bookings surpassing 1 lakh
ARAI Mileage Figures Released
The RTI response confirms that the Tata Sierra's 1.5-litre TGDi Hyperion turbo-petrol engine delivers a certified mileage of 13.5 kmpl. The 1.5-litre Kryojet diesel engine achieves a higher efficiency, with a certified figure of 18.8 kmpl. The diesel variant received ARAI certification on 21 November 2025, while the turbo-petrol engine was certified on 11 December 2025. Both certifications align closely with the SUV's market launch.
The Tata Sierra 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol variant has not yet received ARAI certification. Its official mileage figure remains unavailable at this time.
Launch Phase and Market Response

At launch, Tata Motors highlighted a different fuel efficiency achievement for the turbo-petrol engine. The company reported a figure of 29.9 kmpl during a controlled endurance run at the NATRAX proving ground in Indore. This result, recorded in the India Book of Records, was achieved under specific test conditions and does not reflect standard ARAI testing methods used for official ratings in India.
Despite the initial lack of ARAI mileage data, the Tata Sierra has seen robust demand. Deliveries began on 15 January 2026. Tata Motors has delivered over 10,000 units in a short period. The SUV attracted strong interest at launch, with bookings exceeding 70,000 units in the first 24 hours and eventually crossing the 1 lakh mark. This indicates sustained buyer confidence in the Sierra.
Production and Future Plans
To meet rising demand, Tata Motors is increasing production at its Sanand facility, where the Sierra is built alongside the Nexon. Monthly output is expected to reach about 15,000 units soon. The company is also preparing to launch an all-electric version of the Sierra, expected around mid-2026.

Conclusion
The revelation of Tata Sierra's ARAI mileage, 13.5 kmpl for turbo-petrol and 18.8 kmpl for diesel, closes a key information gap for eager buyers, blending nostalgia with modern efficiency. Whether prioritizing city sprints or highway hauls, these figures affirm the Sierra's competitive edge in India's SUV arena.
