Hyundai India is gearing up for something big for the Indian automotive market. With the launch of the all-new Hyundai Venue and Venue N-Line for the 2025 edition, Hyundai’s new SUV was recently spied testing in Chennai. This camouflage Hyundai electric SUV prototype has been recently spotted testing near Hyundai's Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai, generating significant excitement among automotive enthusiasts.
Planning to launch the upcoming SUV by 2027. According to the brand, the vehicle is designed specifically with India-centric features and a localized supply chain. The new model promises to combine compact dimensions, efficient battery performance, and a competitive price, targeting urban and suburban buyers looking for affordable and practical electric mobility solutions. Here’s everything you need to know about the all-new electric SUV from Hyundai.
Hyundai's prototype SUV was seen undergoing tests near Chennai, signaling the brand's focused effort in strengthening its EV portfolio in India. This compact electric SUV is anticipated to be Hyundai’s first India-designed and built electric vehicle, emphasizing localization and cost-efficiency.
Positioned to compete with popular models like the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV 400, the new electric SUV will likely offer a driving range of around 300 km per charge. The brand has not given any link to whether the camouflage vehicle was an EV or ICE-powered.

While the full details remain under wraps, the prototype suggests a modern and aerodynamic design consistent with Hyundai's global EV design language. According to the recent spy shots that surfaced on the internet, we could only see its rear profile, offering boxy taillights.
Talking about its features, it may include a connected car ecosystem, digital instrument cluster, multiple airbags, and safety technologies to meet rising buyer expectations. The SUV’s compact size will be ideal for Indian city traffic while offering a comfortable and tech-forward cabin.
This electric SUV is part of Hyundai’s ambitious strategy to achieve an eco-friendly vehicle lineup in India by 2030. By developing a vehicle specifically for the Indian market with a local supply chain, Hyundai aims to provide an affordable EV option, helping accelerate the adoption of electric mobility in the country.
Industry insiders expect this Hyundai compact electric SUV to debut by 2027, with pricing tailored to Indian consumers seeking value and efficiency in EVs. It is projected to be priced competitively in the range of Rs 12-15 lakh, directly targeting the compact SUV segment dominated by petrol and diesel models until now.
The early testing activity near Chennai highlights Hyundai’s commitment to launching a strong contender in India’s growing electric SUV market. As the brand continues to refine the vehicle, anticipation builds for a model that could redefine affordable electric mobility in the country with smart features and impressive range.
