Triumph Motorcycles has been seen testing a new motorcycle, believed to be the Bonneville 400, in India. This signals the brand’s intent to expand its retro-styled lineup using a locally developed platform. Although Triumph has not officially confirmed the model, sources suggest the bike could debut in India during the festive season of 2026, with a launch expected by the end of that year.

Key Highlights

  • Triumph Bonneville 400 spotted testing in India ahead of expected 2026 launch
  • New 349cc engine targets lower GST slab and improved affordability
  • Design inspired by classic Bonneville range with spoke wheels and chrome details
  • Expected price between Rs 2 to 2.20 lakhs ex showroom

Design and Features

The Bonneville 400 is expected to draw design cues from Triumph’s iconic Bonneville range. Key features include a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, round headlamp, twin rear shock absorbers, a flat seat, and chrome detailing. Spy images indicate the motorcycle will have a classic roadster stance, highlighted by spoke wheels. This design positions the Bonneville 400 as a direct competitor to retro motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa Roadsters.

The motorcycle’s classic look is intended to appeal to riders seeking a vintage aesthetic combined with modern engineering. The use of spoke wheels and chrome accents further enhances its retro appeal compared to the more modern-looking Speed 400.

Engine and Performance

The upcoming Bonneville 400 is likely to use Triumph’s newly developed 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This downsized engine should allow the motorcycle to benefit from the lower 18 percent GST slab for sub-350cc bikes in India. As a result, the Bonneville 400 is expected to be more affordable than Triumph’s existing 400cc models.

Expected performance figures for the Bonneville 400 are between 35-37 bhp and 30-32 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired with a six-speed gearbox. Compared to Triumph’s current 398cc engine, the new 349cc motor is likely to offer stronger low-end and mid-range torque. This tuning should suit the relaxed and classic riding character associated with the Bonneville name.

Pricing and Market Position

Pricing for the Triumph Bonneville 400 is expected to range from Rs. 2 to 2.20 lakhs (ex-showroom). This price bracket places it competitively within the premium retro motorcycle segment in India. The model will directly challenge established rivals in the segment, including the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Jawa Roadsters.

More details about the Bonneville 400’s final specifications, features, and launch timeline are expected to emerge as the official debut approaches. Triumph’s move to introduce a locally developed, smaller-capacity Bonneville aims to attract a wider audience in the growing retro motorcycle market.
