TVS, a leading player in the Indian two-wheeler market, has taken a massive step towards electrification with the filing of trademark applications for two new names. These trademarks, E-XL and XL EV, hint at the possibility of an electric variant of the popular TVS XL 100 moped.

Revolutionizing Commuting

TVS XL 100, one of the most preferred moped among enthusiasts, has been available as a petrol-powered option in India. The model has gained substantial popularity, boasting sales figures in the five-digit range to this day. Priced between Rs 44,999 and Rs 59,695 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the XL 100 has maintained its position as a reliable and affordable commuting option.

Paving the Way for Electric Mobility

The recent trademark filings by TVS indicate a great move towards electric mobility. The names, E-XL and XL EV, suggest that the company is looking forward to the development of a battery-powered version of its iconic XL 100 moped. This move aligns with TVS's vision of expanding its electric two-wheeler portfolio, following the success of its iQube range.

Early Days, Bright Future

Although the trademark applications were filed in January of this year, the project is still in its early stages. As of now, there is no official confirmation from the company regarding the E-XL / XL EV project. However, the initiative signifies TVS's active approach towards adapting electric mobility.

Competing in the Electric Arena

In the current Indian market, the options for electric mopeds are limited, with only the Kinetic E Luna available for purchase. Priced between Rs 64,990 and Rs 74,990 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Kinetic E Luna stands as a notable competitor in the electric two-wheeler segment.

TVS's trademark filings for E-XL and XL EV reflect its forward-thinking strategy in embracing electric mobility. As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, TVS's initiative defines its dedication to offer innovation with sustainability in the Indian automotive sector.
