Skoda Kylaq
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq is set to make a significant impact in the subcompact SUV segment. Here’s a comprehensive look at what we know so far:
Design and Exterior
The Kylaq will feature Skoda's new 'Modern Solid' design language, characterised by clear, reduced lines that reflect simplicity, solidity, and quality. The SUV will have bold and muscular shapes around the fenders, providing an enhanced stance and road presence.
It will sport a split headlight setup with sleek-looking DRLs placed above the main headlamps and the familiar butterfly grille seen on other Skoda models. Skoda has released camouflaged images showcasing the Kylaq's silhouette and design details, hinting at a fresh design for the 17-inch alloy wheels and a new look for the LED tail lights.
Dimensions and Platform
The Kylaq will be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia. It is designed to fit within the 4-metre footprint, the Kylaq will offer a high ground clearance and space around the wheels for tackling uneven road surfaces.
Engine and Performance
The Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter transmission. The engine and platform have been tested extensively over 800,000 kilometres of Indian terrain, ensuring reliability and performance in diverse conditions.
Interior and Features
The Kylaq is expected to borrow the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system from its larger sibling, the Kushaq, featuring wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It features an 8-inch digital driver’s display that will likely be included, providing a modern tech package.
Skoda has confirmed that the Kylaq will come with ventilated front seats, a feature not commonly found in this segment. The Kylaq is expected to feature a single-pane sunroof, adding to its premium appeal.
Safety and Assistance
The Kylaq will come with six airbags as standard, ensuring high safety levels for all occupants. The SUV will include over 25 active and passive safety features, such as traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Distribution, and more.
