VinFast inaugurates first EV plant in Tamil Nadu
Vietnamese EV maker VinFast has inaugurated its first overseas EV assembly plant in Tamil Nadu, India, poised to scale production and strengthen India’s position in the electric vehicle market.

VinFast has officially inaugurated its first-ever electric vehicle plant in Tamil Nadu. This all-new automotive manufacturing facility is located in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The establishment of a manufacturing plant marks a major milestone for both India and VinFast. It reflects the company’s commitment to tapping into India’s rapidly growing electric mobility market.
Both Tamil Nadu state and VinFast have signed a memorandum to establish a manufacturing plant in India. This state-of-the-art manufacturing hub has an annual capacity to produce 150,000 cars, making a monumental stride in the electrification of clean mobility and economic power.
A new powerhouse in the automotive landscape

The new manufacturing plant is situated in the 400-acre SIPCOT Industrial Park. This is the third manufacturing operational hub of VinFast globally and the first-ever in India. Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, presided over the ceremonial launch, personally signing the first VF7 SUV to roll off the line. This inaugural event was attended by industrial officials, political leaders, business stakeholders, and journalists across the nation.
In its first phase of production, VinFast will only produce electric SUVs—the VF6 and VF7—aiming to meet the growing demand of the people of India. This newly built facility will be able to produce 50,000 units annually. Later, the brand said to rev up the production to 150,000 units by the upcoming year.
Investment with a vision
The Tamil Nadu state told the media that this new facility will create various direct and indirect job opportunities for the locals in the upcoming months. The manufacturing hub will have a fully integrated facility with a paint shop, body shop, assembly lines, quality control, logistic centers, a transportation and shipping firm, and a local contractor auxiliary.
This new Rs 4,000 crore facility will initially focus on assembling VinFast’s flagship EV models, with a capacity to produce 50,000 vehicles annually. According to the reports, the company is likely to generate around 3,000 to 4,000 jobs in the upcoming months. Moreover, the brand has already started giving skills to the undergraduate students through various state government programs.
Integration of EV Business in India
VinFast already announced in June that they will make an official launch of their two iconic SUVs, the VF6 and VF7, in July 2025. This led the brand to enter the Indian automotive landscape for the first time. The company has also opened its biggest showroom in India on August 1, 2025. In the month of July, the brand has also partnered with RoadGrop, myTVs, and the Global Assure to develop services and technical infrastructure. Moreover, the brand has also partnered with BatX Energies to recover and reuse the battery for the upcoming cars.
Conclusion
VinFast is moving ahead with operations in India. They first introduced their official cars to the market, and then they opened the first production facility. This will boost the Indian economy and also generate multiple jobs. For India, it will showcase global dominance in the automotive world and establish long-term growth in India and beyond.
