VinFast Auto, Vietnam's leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to commence construction at its integrated EV manufacturing site in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on February 25, 2024. This marks a significant stride in VinFast's strategic partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu, focused on advancing green transportation in India and the broader region.
Collaboration Rooted in January MoU
The collaborative journey between VinFast and the Tamil Nadu Government traces back to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on January 6, 2024. The agreement entails a substantial commitment of USD 500 million for the initial phase of the integrated EV facility, spanning five years from the commencement date.

The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled just over a month after the MoU announcement, underscores VinFast's resolute commitment and rapid execution of its global expansion plan. This strategic move aligns with VinFast's aspirations to tap into one of the world's fastest-growing major economies and its burgeoning EV market.
Job Opportunities and Capacity Projections
VinFast's integrated EV manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu is expected to generate approximately 3,000 to 3,500 local job opportunities. The project aims to transform into a premier electric vehicle production hub in the region, boasting an annual capacity of up to 150,000 units at full throttle. The facility will cater not only to the Indian market but also to South Asian, Middle Eastern, and African countries.

In line with the Indian government's agenda to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector, targeting 30% of newly registered private cars to be electric, VinFast's Tamil Nadu project is assured to catalyze green transportation development.
