Electrified vehicles and plug-in hybrids now account for 46% of the company’s global sales, significantly lowering tailpipe emissions by 42%.

Key Sustainability Achievements
Volvo Cars has made notable progress in reducing its environmental impact. Seven out of nine production facilities now operate on climate-neutral energy, representing 87% of the total energy used in its operations. The company has also surpassed its target of using 25% recycled and bio-based materials in new models by 2025. The Volvo EX60, for example, uses 27% recycled materials.
Water efficiency initiatives have led to a 29% decrease in water withdrawal per manufactured car across all facilities. These efforts align with Volvo’s broader goal to become a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions company by 2040.
Volvo Car India’s Environmental Initiatives
Volvo Car India supports the global sustainability agenda through local projects. Under its Reverse Project, the company has planted over 35,359 native trees at an urban dump yard in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, achieving an average survival rate of 92%. Currently, Volvo Car India is planting more than 20,000 trees at Matri Van along the Gurugram-Faridabad Highway in Haryana’s Aravalli region.
The company’s dealership network in India emphasizes solar power use, water recycling, and responsible waste management. These initiatives are part of Volvo’s commitment to environmental restoration and sustainable operations in the country.

Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, stated that sustainability remains central to Volvo Cars’ vision globally. The company aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Volvo established its presence in India in 2007 and continues to expand its operations and environmental efforts.
