The fully electric EX40, an expressive and versatile SUV

The EX40 Recharge continues with its familiar boxy silhouette and squared-off edges. The key update is the body-coloured panel replacing the front grille, along with ‘Recharge Twin’ badging on the tailgate.
The SUV rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, giving it a strong road presence. Interestingly, the rear tyres (255/45) are wider than the front ones (235/50), enhancing grip and stability.

The interior mirrors the standard EX40, minus the usual EV-specific accents. Expect Volvo’s signature design touches—square AC vents, quirky door handles, and a clean dashboard layout.
Keyless and button-free start-up:There’s no traditional start/stop button. The car detects the smart key automatically—simply step in, and it’s ready to drive. It feels futuristic, if slightly unconventional.

The driver’s seat offers a commanding view and excellent support. While the cabin is spacious, the rear seat back feels upright and the seat base slightly short for long-distance comfort.

Thanks to the absence of an engine, the EX40 Recharge offers a 31-litre front trunk (frunk). However, the 460-litre rear boot space is partially compromised by the space-saver spare tyre stored within.

EX40 is performance-oriented SUV. With 408PS of power and 660Nm of torque, it delivers sports car-level performance in a practical family package.
The EX40 sprints from 0–100kmph in just 4.9 seconds. Its all-wheel-drive system ensures smooth power delivery and excellent road grip, making every acceleration feel effortless yet thrilling.
Unlike many EVs, the EX40 skips complex drive or regen modes. It relies on throttle sensitivity—drive gently for smooth response or push harder for instant power, keeping the experience intuitive and enjoyable.
The SUV features a one-pedal drive mode, accessible via the infotainment menu. It automatically activates regenerative braking when you ease off the accelerator—allowing smoother, controlled deceleration and better energy recovery.
Adapts to driver behaviour: The braking force adjusts based on throttle input—press harder to speed up or release completely for strong braking. Once familiar, it’s highly effective for both urban commutes and highway cruising, even reducing reaction time during sudden stops.

Powered by a 78kWh battery pack, the EX40 offers a WLTP-claimed range of 418km, which is realistic for mixed city and highway usage.
Balanced handling and refined ride quality: Despite its weight, the EX40 handles corners confidently and stays composed even on rough Indian roads. The MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear suspension setup deliver a planted, comfortable ride.
The EX40 may not aim to be the sportiest SUV in its class, but it strikes an impressive balance between refinement, performance, and everyday usability, true to Volvo’s engineering philosophy.
