The sales and growth of electric vehicles in India have shown a notable dip in February 2026. For FY2026, the total registration drops 28% M-o-M to 13,678 units from the Vahan Dashboard data. Despite the slowdown, Tata Motors solidifies its leadership position with 47% market share in the EV domain. The OEM retail brands slowed in February 2026, which makes 44% Y-o-Y growth from 19,022 units compared to the January 2026 session.

1. Tata Motors: 5,566 units
Tata Motors once again clinched the top spot in the EV sales in February 2026. The undisputed Indian EV king registered about 5,566 units sold in February 2026. Securing a massive 47% market share in the Indian electric market. Considering its 8,262 units sold in January 2026, Tata Motors experienced 2,696 fewer units in the current month, yet it represented robust Y-o-Y growth.
Models like the Nexon EV, Punch EV, and Curvv EV increase the EV sales for the brand. Tata's extensive charging network and affordable pricing continue to resonate with urban buyers seeking safe, feature-packed electrics, cementing its lead despite market headwinds.
2. MG Motor India: 3,310 units
JSW MG Motor India clinched Rank 2 with 3,310 EV registrations, claiming a 24.2% share from the Vahan data. However, the number of units sold is comparatively low compared to 4,858 units sold in January 2026. The MG Windsor Pro variant, with its premium features and competitive pricing under Rs 15 lakh, captured family buyers, while exports added tailwinds. MG's push into the D+ segment with Majestor hints at future volume boosters.
3. Mahindra & Mahindra: 2,914 units
Mahindra & Mahindra sold around 2,914 units of E4W sales, grabbing 21.3% market share. This was a 31.9% M-o-M drop from 4,858 units. Thanks to a few models like the Mahindra BE 6, XUV 400, and new Mahindra XEV 9e, the graph of sales is simultaneously ahead of its competitors.
Mahindra's EV focus shines, with the XEV 9S three-row variant eyed for more gains. Strong rural-urban demand and in-house battery tech position it as Tata's fiercest rival.
4. VinFast India: 384 units
VinFast is one of the newest entrants in the Indian electric EV market. For the 2026 February season, the brand managed to sell around 384 units, holding 2.8% market share in the Indian electric automotive market. In just the fifth month of sales, this was enough to secure a fourth spot among 17 players.
The Vietnamese brand's premium positioning, advanced ADAS, and rapid charging appeal to tech-savvy buyers in metros. As imports ease with local plans, VinFast eyes scaling amid competition. Both the VinFast VF6 and VF7 are expressing good sales results.
5. BYD India: 306 units
BYD registered 306 units in February 2026, with a 27% M-o-M increase from January’s 241 units. Models like the BYD Atto 3 and the BYD e6 models sustained steady demand, leveraging BYD's blade battery safety edge. Despite global sales dips, India's localization via the Chennai plant boosts affordability. BYD's hybrid expertise positions it for growth as subsidies evolve.
6. Hyundai: 304 units
Hyundai Motor India took Rank 6 with 295 E4W units, showcasing a 2.2% share. Some premium models like the Ioniq 5 and upcoming Ioniq 9 remain premium. The Hyundai Creta EV teases mass-market entry, but current volumes reflect cautious ramp-up. Hyundai's 52,407 domestic dispatches underscore hybrid strength, with EVs poised for a BaaS-driven surge.
7. Kia India: 294 units
At no. 7 was Kia India with 254 units sold in February 2026, demonstrating 2%, down 10% from January's 341 sales. The Kia Carens Clavis EV contributed to a record 27,610 total wholesale sales, led by the Kia Seltos and Kia Sonet. The EV9 and upcoming EV6 facelifts target premium, but volumes lag due to pricing.
8. BMW India: 245 units
BMW ranks in position 8 under the luxury EV segment sales in February 2026. The German manufacturer sold around 245 units with a dominant 66% market share.
9. Maruti Suzuki: 214 units
Maruti Suzuki India landed Rank 9 with 214 registrations, with 1.6% market share. The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara's BaaS model drew 2,000 daily inquiries, but registrations trail wholesales in the dominant PV leader.
10. Mercedes-Benz AG: 65 units
Mercedes-Benz India hit Rank 16 with 65 units, offering 0.2% market share. Popular brands like the EQS and EQE lead the luxury EV charge, with Vision EQXX tech previews. With the latest Mercedes CLA EV launch slated, global EQ sales momentum is expected to trickle in.
11. Tesla India: 29 units
Tesla at Rank 11 registered 29 units (0.5% share), plunging 73% M-o-M. Model 3 and Model Y imports face duties, but Gigafactory buzz builds hype. Ultra-fast charging network rollout positions Tesla for 2027 scale.
12. Volvo India: 25 units
Volvo Auto India and others were grouped at Rank 12 with 25 units, showing a dip of 52% M-o-M. Niche players like Polestar eye gains, but volumes whisper-thin amid giants' dominance.
