Maruti Suzuki Fronx crosses 5 lakh sales milestone in 38 months

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has reached a significant milestone, selling 5,12,829 units from its launch in April 2023 through May 2026. This achievement makes it the first SUV from Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa retail network to surpass half a million units sold.

Fronx Sales Performance

The Fronx accounted for 22 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s total utility vehicle (UV) sales of 22,80,628 units in India since April 2023. In its first full fiscal year, FY2024, the Fronx sold 1,34,735 units, representing a 21 percent share of Maruti’s 6,42,296 UVs sold that year.

Sales grew by 23 percent year-on-year in FY2025, with 1,66,216 units sold and a 23 percent share of UV sales. FY2026 marked the Fronx’s best year, with 1,72,363 units sold, maintaining a 23 percent share of Maruti’s record 7,60,987 UV dispatches.

In the first two months of FY2027, the Fronx sold 39,515 units, a 42 percent increase year-on-year. This gave it a 25 percent share of Maruti’s 1,57,159 UVs dispatched to dealers nationwide during this period.

Sales Rankings and Milestones

The Fronx consistently ranked among the top 10 UVs in India since its launch. It placed 7th in FY2024, 5th in FY2025, and 7th in FY2026. The model achieved several sales milestones: 1 lakh units in 10 months, 1.5 lakh in 14 months, 2 lakh in 17 months, 3 lakh in just over 23 months, 4 lakh in 33 months, and 5 lakh in 38 months. Notably, the last 1 lakh units were sold in only six months.

In FY2026, the Fronx was Nexa’s second highest-selling model, just 197 units behind the Baleno. After the first two months of FY2027, the Fronx became the bestselling Nexa model, surpassing both the Baleno and the Grand Vitara.

Comparison with Other Nexa Models

The Fronx leads cumulative Nexa UV sales, followed by the Grand Vitara, XL6, the discontinued S-Cross, Jimny, Invicto, and eVitara. While the Grand Vitara reached the 2 lakh milestone first, the Fronx overtook it by the 3 lakh mark. Fiscal year comparisons show the Fronx outsold the Grand Vitara by 13,566 units in FY2024, 42,570 units in FY2025, and 88,514 units in FY2026. In April-May 2026, the Fronx led by over 22,000 units.

Exports and Recent Performance

The Fronx has also performed strongly in exports, with over 1,75,000 units shipped abroad. In FY2026, it was India’s top exported model, with 90,186 units, making up 20 percent of Maruti’s 4,43,825 passenger vehicle exports and 10 percent of the country’s total 9,05,200 passenger vehicle exports.

In May 2026, Maruti’s passenger vehicle wholesales rose 40 percent year-on-year to 1,90,337 units. UV dispatches reached a record 79,267 units, up 44 percent year-on-year. The Fronx was Maruti’s bestselling SUV and second bestselling model overall in May 2026, with 20,686 units sold, following the Wagon R. This was the third time the Fronx crossed 20,000 monthly sales, after February 2025 and December 2025.

The Fronx is available in five trims: Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. Prices range from Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 11.98 lakh (ex-showroom). It offers petrol and CNG engine options, including a 1.0-liter turbo, with both manual and automatic transmissions.
