Volvo has shifted its focus toward a sustainable future, by saying goodbye to diesel-powered vehicles. With such a decision, Volvo will be putting pause to its nearly century-long history. The final diesel car, V60 has been rolled off the production line at Volvo's Ghent plant.
Volvo's Vision to a Fully Electric Fleet
This decision came into force after Volvo announced its decision to become a fully electric car manufacturer at Climate Week NYC in September 2023. The production in Ghent and Torslanda, Sweden has been closed with the last unit of XC90 diesel car, which marks the dedicated futuristic vision of Volvo to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2024.

Volvo's Evolution in Europe
The evolution of Volvo away from diesel is remarkable. Five years ago, Volvo used to run all its vehicles on diesel engines in the European market, however, with the ongoing global shift toward sustainable and cleaner energy source of mobility drives, Volvo started catering the demands of customers for electric vehicles. Today most of the offerings by Volvo in Eorupe are electric vehicles.
Driving Towards a Greener Future
It is evident, in 2019 Volvo was struggling to set its own position in the electric vehicle market. However, now at present the brand has showcased a spike in sales with 70% growth of fully electric cars. Globally, Volvo's electric market share surged by an impressive 34%, reflecting the growing momentum towards electric mobility.
Volvo's Diverse Portfolio
Volvo has complimented all diverse portfolios of plug-in hybrid and mild-hybrid models, and dominated the fully electric vehicle market. This strategic move has made Volvo stand by its commitment toward innovation and sustainability, to join the battle in combating climate change.
Volvo's Transition Towards Electrification in India
The ripple effects of Volvo's electric revolution are felt beyond European shores. In India, where Volvo has traditionally marketed petrol-only models for nearly three years, the shift towards electrification is becoming increasingly apparent. This transition not only reflects Volvo's global vision but also underscores the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions worldwide.

CarBike360 Says
As Volvo bids farewell to diesel, it embarks on a new chapter characterized by innovation, sustainability, and a steadfast commitment to shaping a cleaner, greener future for generations to come. With electric vehicles at the forefront, Volvo paves the way for a transformative journey towards a carbon-neutral automotive industry.
