Toyota Innova Hycross Facelift spotted testing flex-fuel variant likely
The upcoming Toyota Innova Hycross facelift could introduce a flex fuel-compatible hybrid powertrain alongside subtle design updates and feature enhancements.
The Toyota Innova Hycross has been seen testing under heavy camouflage, signalling the arrival of a refreshed model. The update is expected to include a revised fascia and a flex-fuel-compatible variant. The silhouette remains similar to the current Hycross, but changes to the front grille and bumper are anticipated.
Key Highlights
- Toyota Innova Hycross facelift spotted testing with heavy camouflage.
- Expected updates include revised fascia and a flex-fuel-compatible variant.
- Powertrain options remain two 2-litre petrol engines with automatic gearboxes.
- Features include a panoramic sunroof, a 9-speaker JBL system, and Level-2 ADAS.
- Estimated launch price starts at Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom.
Design and Exterior Updates
Spy images show that the Innova Hycross will retain its overall shape. The front fascia may feature a larger grille and slightly altered DRL housings on either side of the bumper. The fog lamp placement appears unchanged, but the housing and lower bumper lip could receive updates. The side profile, including the flared wheel arches, shark-fin antenna, and character lines, remains consistent with the existing model.
The 10-spoke alloy wheels look similar to the current version, though a new finish is expected. At the rear, the Hycross keeps its boxy and flat design, with LED tail lamps, a roof spoiler with side aero blades, and a rear wiper with a wash function. These changes suggest a mild facelift rather than a comprehensive overhaul, which aligns with Toyota's typical approach.
Powertrain and Flex-Fuel Compatibility
The most significant update may be the introduction of flex-fuel compatibility. Toyota has previously showcased the Hycross flex-fuel at mobility expos. Recently, India's transport minister, Nitin Gadkari, stated that Toyota is ready with flex-fuel versions of its cars. This move aligns with the government's push for higher ethanol blends in petrol, preparing vehicles for up to 85 percent ethanol content.
The Innova Hycross currently offers two engine options. The first is a 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a CVT automatic gearbox. The second is a 2-litre naturally aspirated strong-hybrid petrol engine with an e-CVT gearbox. Both powertrains are available only with automatic transmissions.
Features and Safety Equipment
The Innova Hycross is known for its versatility and reliability. It offers a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, an 8-way adjustable driver's seat with memory, and second-row Ottoman seats. The sound system includes nine JBL speakers, and the vehicle features a 7-inch digital driver's display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay. Keyless entry and engine start-stop are also included.
Safety features are comprehensive. The Hycross comes with six airbags, ABS with EBD, Level-2 ADAS, automatic headlamps, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill-start assist, and electronic stability control. The model has achieved a 5-star rating in the BNCAP crash test.
Market Position and Rivals
The updated Innova Hycross is expected to launch at an estimated starting price of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Its direct rival is the Maruti Suzuki Invicto, which shares its platform. Other alternatives in the segment include the Mahindra 7XO, Tata Safari, and Jeep Meridian, which are positioned as SUV options in a similar price range.
CarBike 360 Says
The Toyota Innova Hycross facelift signals the brand’s push toward cleaner mobility with the possible addition of a flex-fuel hybrid setup. Combined with expected styling updates and feature upgrades, the refreshed MPV could strengthen its dominance in the segment while aligning with evolving emission norms and fuel alternatives in India’s automotive landscape.
