BMW started as an aircraft manufacturing company in the early 20th century. After World War I, the brand was prohibited from producing aircraft engines, so it planned to step into the automotive world. The first motorcycle by BMW was manufactured in 1923. This model was named the ‘R32’, and it became the base for the future models from the brand for a long time. BMW has been associated with a lot of innovations in the automotive sector. BMW was the first company that used technologies like hydraulic damping, telescopic forks and straight-travel rear-wheel suspension. BMW has always been involved in various activities of motorsports, which includes road racing, superbike racing and endurance rallies. The current product range from the brand consists of a wide variety of motorcycles, which includes superbikes, naked roadsters, adventure touring motorcycles, as well as, modern classics. BMW also manufactures scooters, also known as ‘urban mobility vehicles’, though these scooters aren’t sold in India at this point. BMW aims to improve its global sales numbers by a significant amount, and the 310cc motorcycles that have been produced with TVS will play a big part in this. Currently, BMW sells only large-displacement bikes from its product range. The BMW G 310 R and BMW G 310 GS will also be introduced in the near future. These bikes, however, won’t be accessible to many people due to their premium pricing.
