Latest Update: Tata Motors has been testing the ICE (petrol) powered Curvv on Indian roads for some time now. The coupe style mass market SUV is expected to launch a few months after its electric counterpart i.e. Curvv EV. Thus we can expect Curvv ICE sometime around the second half or the end of 2024. However, it might also get postponed to early 2025. This is because Tata will first launch the Curvv EV and the ICE version will come later after it. In September, Tata trademarked the name AZURA in India, signaling towards a possibility of it being the production name of the concept Curvv ICE & EV.
Design & Exterior
Tata Curvv is set to become the first mass market coupe style SUV to be launched in India, that too by an Indian car maker. Talking about the exterior design elements, the Curvv EV will come with futuristic design elements that we saw in its concept version at the 2022 auto expo. These elements include connected LED light bar design in the front & rear, front bumper with side air curtains, C-pillar with air curtain, flush type door handles, side air curtains in rear bumper, etc.
Engine & Transmission
Tata Motors is set to debut its newly developed 1.2 litre 3-cylinder T-GDi petrol engine with the Curvv ICE (petrol). This new engine has been developed in-house by Tata Motors and it might also power the Nexon in future. In Curvv, we expect this engine with the same 7 speed DCA auto gearbox that the new Nexon facelift gets.
Segment and Rivals
Tata Curvv will sit between Tata Nexon and Tata Harrier in Tata's current ICE lineup. It will be approx. 4.3 meters in length and will compete with Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, etc in the mid size SUV segment.
