Jeep teases the next-gen Compass ahead of its 2025 global debut. Built on the STLA M platform, it offers multiple powertrain options but won’t be launched in India.
Ahead of its 2025 global release, Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, has released a few teases for the brand-new third-generation Jeep Compass. It has been confirmed that the next generation Compass, which will run on the cutting-edge STLA Medium platform, will not be available in India. Launched in 2017 and modified in 2021, the current second-generation Compass in India will be in use until at least 2026.
The upcoming Jeep Compass's side profile is visible in the teaser photo. Expected to keep the iconic Jeep front with its characteristic nostrils, the new generation Compass will have a more angular look than its predecessor. The SUV has a strong visual presence thanks to its powerful wheel arches with extra cladding, flat hood, slightly curved flat roof, and bold character line that runs from the front to the back.
The next generation Compass has a quarter glass surround and blacked-out D-pillars that give it a "floating roof" appearance. Its tail lights are square-bordered and arranged horizontally, directly beneath the back glass. For a more elegant rear profile, the short back overhang appears to merge in well with the tall rear bumper.
The upcoming Compass will be the first Jeep to ride on the STLA Medium platform, which is already used by SUVs like the Peugeot 3008, 5008, and Opel Grandland. This platform is designed to accommodate a variety of powertrains, making it flexible for future energy needs.
Jeep has confirmed that the new Compass will offer four-wheel drive and multiple powertrain options, including internal combustion engines (ICE), mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric models. This versatility will help the Compass cater to various global markets and meet evolving emission standards.
Although the global market will get the all-new Compass, India won't. The project for the Indian market, codenamed J4U, was scheduled for a 2026 launch but was cancelled due to commercial viability concerns. Stellantis found that the high investment required to bring the STLA M platform to India didn’t justify the expected sales volumes. Even exploring the option of manufacturing Peugeot SUVs for Malaysia in India didn't help in reaching the required production volumes.
In India, Jeep will continue with the current-gen Compass until 2026. The model, introduced in 2017, received a facelift in 2021 and will remain in the lineup, powered by its diesel engine. Jeep may introduce a completely new SUV for the Indian market by 2027, based on the Citroën platform.
