Alpina, now owned by BMW, will unveil its first new models based on the 7 Series and X7 in May 2026 at Concorso d’Eleganza. These models will focus on luxury and comfort, remaining distinct from BMW’s M division.

Alpina, now under BMW ownership, will introduce its first new models since the acquisition on May 15, 2026. These vehicles will be based on the BMW 7 Series sedan and X7 SUV. The global debut will take place at the Concorso d’Eleganza event at Villa d’Este in Cernobbio, Italy. This event is known for displaying classic, concept, and legendary cars.
Key Highlights
- Alpina will debut first BMW-era models on May 15 2026
- New models will be based on BMW 7 Series sedan and X7 SUV
- Debut will take place at Concorso d’Eleganza in Italy
- Alpina will focus on speed comfort and luxury not sportiness
- Alpina will remain a standalone brand distinct from BMW M division
Upcoming Alpina Models
The new Alpina models will arrive after BMW updates the 7 Series and X7 with the company’s ‘Neue Klasse’ design language and technology. According to Autocar UK, these updates will set the stage for Alpina’s versions. Recent leaks of the 7 Series facelift have provided hints about the possible design direction for these models.
The BMW 7 Series sedan is available with both internal combustion engines and electric powertrains. When asked if Alpina would also offer electric vehicles, BMW Group R&D chief Joachim Post stated, “We are technology-open.” This suggests Alpina may consider both powertrain options, but further details remain undisclosed.
Brand Philosophy and Positioning
Joachim Post emphasized that Alpina will focus on speed, comfort, and luxury rather than pure sportiness. The design and configuration philosophy will remain consistent with Alpina’s established approach. Despite developing the new models in-house, Alpina will not overlap with BMW’s M division. Instead, it will operate as an exclusive standalone brand with its own unique characteristics.
Post noted that Alpina differs from the M division, which centers on high performance. Oliver Heilmer, head of design for BMW’s M division, confirmed that this distinction will be clear in the design of the upcoming Alpina models. Heilmer explained that while the M division is purpose-driven for maximum performance, Alpina’s approach is more mature and focused on refinement.
BMW previously stated that Alpina will emphasize high-quality materials and craftsmanship. The brand will offer a portfolio of bespoke options, reinforcing its commitment to luxury and exclusivity.
