The Indian electric two-wheeler manufacturer has recently filed a design patent for a new electric scooter based on its EL platform. The patent sketch closely mirrors the EL01 working concept shown at Community Day 2025, indicating a production intent rather than a pure design study. The upcoming scooter might show a similar design to that featured in the EL Concept. Let’s take a look at what the concept design shows and what features the scooter might offer for Indian customers.

What does the new patent reveal?

The new design patent reveals the blueprint for the upcoming electric scooter based on the EL platform. This new scooter will be the third product under the brand’s portfolio after the 450 series and Rizta. Talking about the design concept patent, the front fascia seems to have a prominent DRL and LED lighting. The profile points to a practical stance and wider mass appeal versus Ather’s sportier silhouettes.

With a new design housing the scooter’s advanced battery pack, Ather is trying to position this scooter for everyday practicality with subtle proportions and simple ergonomic controls. The EL architecture is engineered for scalability and cost-efficiency, accommodating multiple scooter categories and battery capacities from 2 kWh to 5 kWh.

In mid-2025, Ather Energy hosted Ather Community Day in Bengaluru, which showcased its various products and innovative plans to launch the new models by 2027 in India. However, the most prominent part of the event was the unveiling of the new EL platform design for Ather’s future models. The Ather EL new model is said to be Ather’s most ambitious project.

This new EL platform patents a design for Ather’s next model. This new model takes its inspiration from the upcoming TVS Orbiter. Unlike the pre-production unit, the production model might also get a mirror for the Indian customers. The concept featured a 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy setup, a new swingarm-mounted motor, and a 7-inch TFT display.

Features

A large 7-inch TFT and Ather’s connected features stack are also likely, given the brand’s emphasis on software-led user experience. Coverage highlights the EL platform’s readiness for advanced features such as an integrated Charge Drive Controller and AEBS in the lineup’s evolution.

Why does this matter?

The EL platform expands Ather’s likable customers from enthusiast-led to mainstream family buyers with flexible configurations and lower-cost manufacturing. The design patent reinforces that EL01 wasn’t a one-off showcase but a blueprint steering Ather’s next-gen portfolio into production reality.

Conclusion

Ather's EL platform patent marks a pivotal shift toward affordable, family-centric scooters, blending modularity, advanced tech, and scalability. As 2026 festive launches loom, it promises to redefine India's EV scooter segment with practical innovation.
