Bajaj has introduced a new version of the Dominar 400 motorcycle in India with a smaller 350cc engine. The reduced engine displacement allows the bike to attract a lower Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate of 18 percent. This change has resulted in a significant drop in the ex-showroom price, making the motorcycle more affordable for buyers.
Key Highlights
- Bajaj Dominar 400 now features a 350cc engine for lower GST benefits
- Ex-showroom price drops by Rs 37,000 to Rs 2.03 lakh
- New engine produces 40.4bhp and 33.2Nm torque
- Bajaj retains the '400' badge despite reduced displacement
Price and Taxation Changes
The new Bajaj Dominar 400 with a 350cc engine is now priced at Rs. 2.03 lakh, ex-showroom. This is a reduction of Rs. 37,000 compared to the previous 400cc model, which was priced at Rs. 2.40 lakh. The lower GST rate applies to motorcycles with engine displacements below 350cc, making this change financially beneficial for customers.
Engine and Performance Details

Despite the reduction in engine size, Bajaj has retained the '400' badge on the motorcycle. The company aims to maintain the perception of the bike's performance by not changing the model name. This strategy is similar to what Bajaj has done with the new 350cc Triumph models recently launched in India.
The new Dominar's 349.13cc engine reportedly produces 40.4bhp and 33.2Nm of torque. Compared to the older 400cc version, this is an increase of about 1bhp but a decrease of 2.8Nm in torque. The change in engine output is the result of a shorter stroke length, reduced from 60mm to 56.1mm, while the bore remains at 89mm. Most other specifications of the motorcycle are expected to remain nearly the same as the previous version.
Market Impact and Future Announcements
Bajaj has not yet officially launched the new Dominar 400 with the 350cc engine or released detailed specifications. The company’s decision to keep the '400' suffix aims to prevent any negative impact on customer perception regarding engine performance. It remains to be seen how this change will affect sales of both Bajaj and Triumph motorcycles in India. More information is expected once Bajaj makes an official announcement.
