Bajaj Introduces Dual-Fuel Freedom Motorcycle: Combining CNG and Petrol for Sustainable Commuting

Bajaj Auto introduced an innovative dual-fuel motorcycle, the Freedom, which runs on both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and petrol. This groundbreaking vehicle marks a significant leap in eco-friendly commuting options, especially where CNG infrastructure is well-developed.

The Bajaj Freedom comes equipped with a 2 kg under-seat CNG cylinder alongside a 2-litre petrol tank, offering an impressive claimed range of up to 330 km on a full tank. This dual-fuel capability makes it a versatile choice for daily commuters seeking cost-effective and sustainable transportation solutions.

Launched recently with Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, in attendance, the Freedom has generated considerable interest. It is priced competitively across three variants:

  • NGO4 Drum: INR 95,000
  • NGO4 Drum LED: INR 1.05 lakh
  • NGO4 Disc LED: INR 1.1 lakh

Bookings have commenced in Maharashtra and Gujarat, with plans for a wider rollout across India later this fiscal year.

The motorcycle boasts a distinctive design with features like a long seat and mono-shock suspension, setting it apart in its segment. Its efficient design ensures a comfortable ride while maintaining optimal performance.

Acknowledging the current CNG infrastructure, Bajaj aims to collaborate with city gas distribution companies to expand coverage. The Freedom delivers an impressive mileage of 120 km/kg of CNG, with real-world tests showing up to 150 km/kg, making it highly efficient for everyday use.

Bajaj plans to produce 10,000 units initially, ramping up to 40,000 units by the end of the fiscal year. Export markets are also on the horizon, with initial focuses on India, Egypt, Tanzania, Colombia, Peru, and Tunisia.

Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, emphasized the immense potential of the CNG motorcycle market in India and abroad. With a strong foundation in CNG three-wheelers, Bajaj is assured to lead in this emerging segment, driven by consumer demand for fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.

The Bajaj Freedom represents a significant milestone in the automotive industry, offering consumers a viable alternative in the dual-fuel motorcycle category. With its innovative design, robust performance, and commitment to sustainability, Freedom is set to redefine commuting standards both in India and globally.
