Pricing and Market Position
Industry sources expect the BMW F 450 GS to start at around Rs 4.80-5 lakh, ex-showroom. This price places it above rivals such as the KTM 390 Adventure. BMW previously adopted a similar strategy with the now-discontinued G 310 GS, which was priced higher than some competitors but still achieved notable sales. The F 450 GS is expected to follow this approach, especially since most variants come with advanced features.
Engine and Performance
The F 450 GS uses a 420cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. This motor produces 48bhp at 8,750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6,750rpm. The engine features a 135-degree firing order and is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Standard equipment includes a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter, enhancing the riding experience.
Chassis and Features
The motorcycle rides on a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, both fitted with dual-purpose tyres. Suspension duties are handled by USD front forks and a rear monoshock. One of the key highlights is the ERC (easy ride clutch) system, which aims to improve clutch operation for riders. The F 450 GS will be available in four variants: Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and GS Trophy. The GS Trophy variant is tailored for off-road use, offering tubeless wire-spoke wheels and knobby-pattern tyres for better performance on rough terrain.
Competition and Expectations
The BMW F 450 GS enters a competitive segment, facing rivals like the KTM 390 Adventure. However, its premium features and expected pricing may attract buyers seeking advanced technology and equipment. The launch will clarify how the F 450 GS stands against its competitors in the Indian market.
