BMW has confirmed it will introduce the iX3 Long Wheelbase (LWB) in India in 2027. The iX3 LWB, first developed for China, will follow the standard iX3, which debuted in 2025 as the initial model in BMW's Neue Klasse electric vehicle range.
Key Highlights
- BMW will launch the iX3 Long Wheelbase in India in 2027
- The iX3 LWB features a 3,006mm wheelbase and enhanced rear seat comfort
- It uses a 108.7kWh battery with 469hp and up to 805km WLTP range
- Charging supports 400kW DC fast charging and 22kW AC charging
- Interior expected to include a 17.9 inch infotainment system and digital driver's display
iX3 LWB Development and Market Trends
The LWB version of the iX3 is being tailored for markets like China, where luxury car buyers prefer more rear legroom. This trend has also gained momentum in India, driven by the rise in chauffeur-driven customers. India first saw a luxury LWB model in 2018 with the launch of the Mercedes E-Class LWB. BMW joined the segment in 2021 with the 3 Series Gran Limousine and has since added LWB versions of the 5 Series, iX1, and 7 Series. An LWB i5 is also planned for the future.
The iX3 LWB will have a wheelbase of 3,006mm, which is 108mm longer than the standard iX3's 2,898mm. This extension aims to provide more interior space and enhance rear seat comfort. BMW is expected to modify the chassis and suspension for Indian road conditions, as it has done with other LWB models.
Technical Specifications and Features

The iX3 LWB will likely use the same 108.7kWh battery pack as the standard iX3. This battery is built on an 800V architecture and is paired with a dual-motor setup that delivers 469hp and 645Nm of torque. The standard iX3 claims a range of up to 805km on the WLTP cycle. Charging options include 400kW DC fast charging and 22kW AC charging capabilities.
BMW previewed the iX3 LWB in prototype form in January 2024. The exterior design will remain similar to the standard iX3, featuring sharply styled LED headlamps and tail-lamps, a vertical grille, smooth body panels, and a sporty rear spoiler and bumper. Wheel sizes may range from 20 to 22 inches. The LWB version will have longer rear doors to accommodate the increased wheelbase.
While BMW has not revealed interior images, the iX3 LWB is expected to retain the standard model’s cabin layout. Features may include a digital driver's display stretching across the windshield, a 17.9-inch infotainment system, an optional panoramic glass roof, and a 4-spoke steering wheel with haptic feedback. Multiple colour themes and seat finish options are also anticipated.
