BMW has listed the M2 xDrive as a distinct variant on its US website, separate from the current rear-wheel-drive (RWD) model. The M2 xDrive is expected to use the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol straight-six engine as the RWD version. However, it may receive a 50hp increase, bringing total output to 530hp. This matches the power of the 2025 M2 CS and compensates for the added weight of the front transaxle. The estimated kerb weight for the M2 xDrive is around 1,800kg.

Performance and Drivetrain Details

The xDrive system in the M2 will likely favor the rear axle, similar to the systems in the M3, M4, and M5. Drivers can expect configurable drive modes, including an option to send all power to the rear wheels. In standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) mode, the M2 xDrive should accelerate from 0 to 100kph faster than the current M2 automatic, which achieves this in a claimed 4 seconds.
Production and Launch Timeline
BMW plans to start production of the M2 xDrive at its San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico by mid-2026. The global launch is expected in the second half of 2026. The standard M2 is already available in India. The xDrive version may also launch in India, likely priced slightly higher than the RWD model, which costs Rs 1.03 crore.
