BMW has revealed long-wheelbase versions of the Neue Klasse i3 sedan and iX3 SUV in Beijing, China. The iX3 LWB will be BMW's first Neue Klasse electric model to launch in India, with its arrival set for 2027. Both the iX3 LWB and i3 LWB feature a wheelbase exceeding 3 metres. The iX3 LWB's wheelbase is 3,006mm, which is 108mm longer than the standard iX3. While BMW has not specified the i3 LWB's exact wheelbase, it is expected to be similar to the iX3 LWB, since the regular i3 and iX3 have nearly identical wheelbases.
Key Highlights
- BMW unveils Neue Klasse iX3 and i3 long wheelbase versions in Beijing
- iX3 LWB features a 3,006mm wheelbase and will launch in India in 2027
- Both models use a 108.7 kWh battery and dual-motor setup with 469hp and 645Nm torque
- Claimed range exceeds 900km for iX3 LWB and 1000km for i3 LWB on CLTC cycle
Design and Interior Features

The iX3 LWB and i3 LWB maintain a design similar to their standard versions. The extended wheelbase results in a slightly different rear door design, featuring a recessed space for the door handles. This change addresses China’s regulation banning powered flush-fitting door handles from January 2027. Inside, both models retain the standard versions' cabin layout. A digital driver’s display spans the windshield, and a 17.9-inch rhomboidal infotainment system dominates the dashboard.
BMW has partnered with local companies to develop a China-specific version of the BMW Operating System X for these models. Additional features include powered front seats, ambient lighting, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and a wireless phone charging pad. The iX3 LWB offers cabin themes in all-white or brown and cream, while the i3 LWB features a black and brown interior.
Performance and Range
Both the iX3 LWB and i3 LWB use the standard versions' 108.7 kWh battery pack. They employ a dual-motor setup delivering 469hp and 645Nm of torque. The 800V architecture allows DC charging at speeds up to 400kW. On the CLTC cycle, the iX3 LWB claims a range of over 900km, while the i3 LWB claims over 1000km.
Market Launch and Outlook
BMW has confirmed the iX3 LWB will launch in India in 2027. There is no confirmation yet for the i3 LWB's India launch. However, given the popularity of long-wheelbase models among luxury buyers and BMW's existing 3 Series Gran Limousine, the i3 LWB could also be introduced in India in the future.
