BorgWarner to supply turbocharger and EGR cooler for Euro 7 heavy-duty diesel engine
BorgWarner strengthens its emissions technology portfolio by supplying turbochargers and EGR coolers for upcoming Euro 7-compliant heavy-duty diesel engines.

BorgWarner, a US-based auto parts supplier, has secured a contract to supply key components for a major European commercial vehicle manufacturer. The company will provide a variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger and an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler for a Euro 7-compliant, 6-cylinder heavy-duty diesel engine. BorgWarner announced the agreement on May 13, 2026.
Key Highlights
- BorgWarner secures contract for Euro 7 heavy-duty diesel engine components
- Production of turbocharger and EGR cooler to begin in late 2028
- Components will be manufactured in the UK and Spain
The contract covers components intended for long-haul truck applications. Production of the VTG turbocharger and EGR cooler will begin in late 2028. BorgWarner will manufacture these parts at its facilities in Bradford, United Kingdom, and Vigo, Spain.
Contract Details and Strategic Importance
This deal is described as a conquest business win for BorgWarner. The company was not the previous supplier for this customer, marking an expansion of its business relationship. The agreement extends BorgWarner’s involvement with the unnamed European commercial vehicle OEM.
Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, stated that the award demonstrates BorgWarner’s ability to deliver advanced technology and competitive solutions for demanding commercial vehicle applications. He emphasized the importance of the jointly developed turbocharger and EGR cooler business for a premium heavy-duty engine platform.
Technical Features of Supplied Components
The VTG turbocharger features a tailored cartridge and turbine housing design. It uses ball bearings to improve transient response and fuel efficiency. The turbocharger also includes a high-efficiency compressor to meet the performance needs of heavy-duty diesel engines.
The EGR cooler incorporates an advanced internal plate design for improved thermal performance. Its floating core architecture is designed to enhance durability during thermal cycling, which is critical for long-haul truck operations.
BorgWarner’s Bradford and Vigo plants will handle the manufacturing of both components. The company expects to start production at the end of 2028, aligning with the introduction of Euro 7 emissions standards for commercial vehicles in Europe.
CarBike 360 Says
With Euro 7 regulations pushing the boundaries of emissions control, BorgWarner’s latest supply agreement highlights its commitment to cleaner and more efficient diesel technologies. By integrating advanced turbocharging and EGR cooling solutions, the company is not only supporting OEMs in meeting stringent norms but also ensuring performance remains uncompromised in the evolving commercial vehicle landscape.
