BSA Bantam reborn as a 350 cc model, inspired by Jawa 42 FJ
The legendary BSA Bantam returns as a 350cc motorcycle built on the Jawa 42 FJ platform, combining vintage aesthetics with contemporary performance and technology.

The legendary BSA Bantam is ready to make a comeback with the launch of the all-new 350 cc model. This new model is based on the Jawa 42 FJ platform. This latest model will join BSA’s portfolio and will have similarities with the Jawa 42 FJ.
The Jawa 42 FJ and Bantam 350 will be closely related to each other when mechanical restraints are concerned. This bold reimagining merges the timeless charm of the original Bantam with contemporary design and engineering principles from the Czech manufacturer Jawa, known for its robust and performance-oriented motorcycles.
Heritage Meets Modernity
The first generation of the BSA Bantam was in production from 1948 to 1971. It was one of the lightweight entry-level motorcycles. The bike was powered by a 125 cc two-stroke engine that was robust and precise in performance. However, time changes, and the innovations killed the old-school boy. The bike earned a long-lasting legacy for its simplicity, reliability, and lightweight design.
Now, BSA in the 21st century needs to be reborn. This incarnation of the bike was to be followed by the Gold Star 650, but for the entry-level bike, the Bantam 350 was an ideal option to consider.
Powertrain Specs
The all-new Bantam 350 is powered by the 350 cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke engine. We can see this same powertrain on the Jawa 350 and the Jawa 42 FJ, too. However, the only difference is the iteration of the single exhaust pipe compared to the twin exhaust pipe. By utilizing the Jawa 42 FJ as a base, the resurrected Bantam benefits from contemporary rideability, improved fuel efficiency, and environmental compliance. With the same aspects of the engine, the bike can be able to produce 30 HP and 27 Nm of maximum torque.
Retro Design
Considering the design, the new BSA Bantam 350 follows the same aesthetics of the retro design from the original model. This includes a classic, rigged fuel tank, round headlamps, and muscular stance bodywork. The bike also shares some elements from the FJ, such as the design of the handlebars, the twin rear shocks, and the wheels. The frame has been re-engineered to maintain the lightweight agility of the original Bantam, despite the upscaled engine capacity.
Market Position
Since the brand does not currently sell in India, the new BSA Bantam 350 will not be available for a few years. BSA is present in 12 markets across the globe, and the Bantam 350 will be making its debut in the UK and Europe. The Bantam 350 is aimed at classic motorcycle enthusiasts and young urban riders who want retro styling with modern reliability.
If the bike were launched in India. It would be affordable, lightweight, and resonate with the young generation of riders. Positioned as a premium retro-modern bike, the Bantam 350 aims to compete with other retro-naked motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Jawa 42 FJ. The BSA name does not give the same vibe as other brands' recalls in this competitive market.
