Ducati Formula 73 Limited Edition Unveiled Globally
Ducati has unveiled the Formula 73 Limited Edition, a heritage café racer limited to 873 units worldwide. Featuring a 73 HP 803 cc L-twin, retro styling inspired by the 1973 Super Sport, and cutting-edge rider aids.

Ducati has pulled the wraps off the new Formula 73, a limited-edition heritage model that blends retro racing cues with thoroughly modern hardware and electronics. Positioned under the brand’s Heritage line, the bike pays a direct tribute to the legendary 750 Super Sport Desmo of the 1970s while targeting enthusiasts who want exclusivity straight from the factory.
Globally, the Formula 73 will be restricted to just 873 individually numbered units, each accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, underlining its status as a collector-focused model. The styling leans heavily into classic café racer proportions, but underneath the throwback bodywork sits an 803 cc Desmodue engine, modern chassis components, and a full suite of rider aids.
Tribute to Ducati’s Racing Past
The Formula 73 has been conceived as a rolling homage to the 750 Super Sport Desmo, one of the most iconic machines in Ducati’s racing story. The name itself nods to 1973, the era that cemented Ducati’s image in endurance racing and café racer culture.
To visually connect it with that historic bike, Ducati has given the Formula 73 a distinctive silver and aqua green livery, with the frame also finished in aqua, echoing classic race machines from the period.
Design and Detailing

Ducati has positioned the Formula 73 within its Heritage range, so the design is intentionally clean, mechanical, and analog in feel, even though it’s packed with tech underneath. The bike rides on 17‑inch spoked aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, combining vintage looks with contemporary grip.
Other visual highlights include the low clip-on style ergonomics, café-racer-inspired front profile, and tidy rear section, which all work together to give the bike a lean, agile silhouette.
Ducati Formula73: Engine and Performance

Powering the Formula 73 is Ducati’s familiar 803 cc Desmodue L‑twin engine, featuring air cooling and desmodromic distribution with two valves per cylinder. In this application, it delivers 73 HP of power and 65.2 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a 6‑speed gearbox and a hydraulically actuated slipper and self‑servo wet multiplate clutch, helping smooth downshifts and improving stability under hard braking.

Safety & Suspension
Suspension duties are handled by a 41 mm upside‑down Kayaba fork at the front and a Kayaba rear shock with preload adjustment, both offering 150 mm of wheel travel. This setup, combined with the relatively accessible 808 mm seat height, is targeted at sporty yet comfortable road riding. Braking is managed by a 330 mm front disc with a radial four‑piston caliper and a 245 mm rear disc with a single‑piston floating caliper.
On the electronics front, the bike features Riding Modes, Power Modes, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Quick Shift up/down, and a 4.3‑inch TFT color display, bringing a fully modern user experience to a classically styled package.
Conclusion
The model is expected to reach key international markets from spring–summer 2026, with regional rollouts staggered through the year, depending on homologation and allocation. For enthusiasts who value heritage, craftsmanship, and rarity, the Formula 73 looks set to become one of Ducati’s most desirable modern classics straight out of the showroom.
