The Hero Splendor+ Flex Fuel has been launched in India at a price of Rs 82,810 (ex-showroom). This new variant costs about Rs 5,000 more than the standard E20-compatible Hero Splendor+. The Splendor+ Flex Fuel is based on the existing Splendor+ model but features significant updates to run on fuel blends with up to 85% ethanol (E85).
Key Highlights
- Hero Splendor+ Flex Fuel launched at Rs 82,810 ex-showroom in India
- Model features 36 changes for E85 ethanol fuel compatibility
- 97.2cc engine produces 8.4 HP and 8.3 Nm on E85 fuel
- New digi-analog instrument cluster and updated graphics included
- Launch aligns with government plans for higher ethanol petrol blends
Key Mechanical and Design Changes
Hero MotoCorp has made 36 changes to adapt the Splendor+ for E85 fuel compatibility. These updates include a new fuel pump, a secondary air filter, and a specially calibrated ECU map. The motorcycle uses a 97.2cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. When running on E85 fuel, this engine produces 8.4 HP and 8.3 Nm of torque. In comparison, the E20-compatible engine delivers 7.91 HP and 8.05 Nm.
Alongside the mechanical upgrades, the Splendor+ Flex Fuel features new graphics to distinguish its appearance. The bike also comes with a new digi-analog instrument cluster, offering updated information to the rider.
Context of Launch and Market Position
The launch of the Hero Splendor+ Flex Fuel comes as the Government of India considers increasing the ethanol blend in petrol beyond the current E20 level (20% ethanol and 80% petrol). The Splendor+ Flex Fuel’s ability to run on E85 makes it ready for future changes in fuel standards. Discussions around higher ethanol blends, such as E27, E30, and E85, are ongoing in India.
Currently, the Splendor+ Flex Fuel is one of only two mass-market motorcycles in India capable of running on E85 fuel. The other is the Flex Fuel variant, also launched by Hero. These models provide options for consumers as India explores higher ethanol content in fuels to reduce emissions and reliance on conventional petrol.
