E-Clutch Features and Performance

The E-Clutch system operates in automatic mode by default. Riders do not need to use the clutch lever when starting, stopping, or shifting gears. However, the physical clutch remains fully functional. Riders can engage or disengage the automatic system at any time by pressing or releasing the clutch lever. This allows seamless switching between automatic and manual operation without selecting modes or pressing buttons.

The E-Clutch aims to reduce rider fatigue, especially in stop-and-go city traffic. It has gained popularity among both new and experienced riders, as it does not require changes to riding habits. Honda plans to reveal full performance details and specifications for the CBR400R E-Clutch at the Osaka Motorcycle Show, scheduled for March 20-22. The model will also appear at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show from March 27 to 29 and the Nagoya Motorcycle Show from April 10 to 12.

Technical Specifications and Market Position

The current Honda CBR400R uses a 399 cc, parallel twin-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine. It produces 46 PS of power and 38.25 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed transmission. In Japan, the CBR400R is priced at JPY 863,500 (Rs 5.02 lakh). The E-Clutch version will be offered at a higher price, reflecting the added technology.

Honda’s CBR400R E-Clutch will compete with models such as the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-4R. There is no confirmation about an India launch, but the sub-500 cc segment continues to show growth potential. Honda’s E-Clutch system is designed to be accessible and practical, supporting a broad range of riders and riding conditions.
