Hyundai Venus EV Prototype Spotted Ahead of 2027 China Launch
The Hyundai Venus EV prototype has been seen in China, showing a design close to the concept model. Expected to launch in 2027, the Venus may offer both electric and hybrid powertrains and advanced interior technology.

The Hyundai Venus EV has been spotted for the first time in China, signaling Hyundai’s expansion of its electric lineup. The Venus sedan, part of a new series with planet-themed names, is expected to launch in China by 2027. The test vehicle, heavily camouflaged, closely resembles the concept model unveiled earlier, with some notable differences.
Key Highlights
- Hyundai Venus EV test mule spotted in China ahead of 2027 launch
- Prototype closely resembles concept with some design differences and standard road tyres
- Interior expected to feature Pleos Connect system and premium materials
- Venus may use Integrated Modular Architecture platform with electric and hybrid options
Exterior Design and Features

The test mule maintains the single-curve silhouette seen on the concept, which aids aerodynamic efficiency and allows for a large, raked windshield. This design may also help create the impression of a full glass roof inside the vehicle. At the front, the car features sharp geometric shapes, a wedge-style grille, and bumper, giving it a futuristic look. The horizontally placed projector headlamps are positioned higher on the wedge-shaped structure compared to the concept. The LED daytime running lights (DRLs) now have a connected format, which differs from the concept’s design. The lower grille inserts also appear to be unique to the test mule.
On the side, the prototype uses conventional outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), unlike the sleeker versions on the concept. The wheel arch cladding is absent, and the test vehicle is equipped with standard road-biased tyres, while the concept featured rugged, dual-use tyres. The alloy wheel design seems similar to the concept, but camouflage makes it difficult to confirm all details. The absence of makeshift parts suggests that Hyundai is advancing quickly with development.
Interior and Technology

The concept model of the Hyundai Venus features a large wraparound dashboard, extensive suede upholstery, and gold highlights for a premium cabin experience. A large central infotainment screen is expected to integrate the instrument display. The Venus could introduce the Pleos Connect system, Hyundai’s new Android-based software platform, offering a smartphone-like interface. This system aims to deliver an experience similar to Tesla or high-end Chinese EVs such as NIO or XPeng.
Additional interior highlights may include gold ambient lighting, gold accents, a yoke-style steering wheel, sporty seats, and twin wireless chargers. These features are designed to enhance comfort and convenience for occupants.
Platform and Powertrain Expectations
Hyundai has not yet disclosed powertrain details for the Venus sedan. However, the Venus and other models in the lineup may use the Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA) platform. Alongside a fully electric version, Hyundai could also offer an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) hybrid option for the Venus.
