Jaguar has confirmed that its production-spec Type 01 electric GT will debut in October 2026. The announcement came during Jaguar's 2026 investor day on June 17. The unveiling will take place in New York, USA. This launch follows nearly two years after the Type 00 concept was revealed in 2024.

Type 01 Debut and Strategic Timing

The Type 01's debut marks a significant moment for Jaguar. The company discontinued the F-Pace SUV, its only model on sale, in 2025. The Type 01 will be Jaguar's first all-new model since the brand changed its identity. This is the second delay for the Type 01's launch. Originally, Jaguar planned to debut the model in 2025. The date was later postponed to September 2026 and is now set for October 2026.

Leonard Hoornik, Chief Commercial Officer at JLR, commented briefly on the debut. He stated, “We will launch it… in a very, very special way.” The decision to unveil the Type 01 in the US follows the Type 00 concept’s appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year. According to Autocar UK, Jaguar sees America as a key market for the new model, despite recent changes in US emissions legislation and some criticism of the brand's relaunch strategy.

Technical Specifications and Market Position

The production-spec Type 01 will be a four-door electric GT. The earlier Type 00 concept was a two-door model. Jaguar says the ‘0’ in the name stands for zero tailpipe emissions, while ‘1’ signifies the first model of the brand’s new era.

The Type 01 will use the Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). It will feature three electric motors producing over 1000hp and 1300Nm of torque. The car will offer a WLTP-certified range of over 700km. A 15-minute quick charge will provide up to 321km of driving range. The vehicle will also include air suspension with twin-valve active dampers.

Jaguar has been testing the Type 01 ahead of its launch. In May, a heavily camouflaged prototype completed a lap at the Monaco circuit before the Formula E E-Prix.

Global Launch and Competition

The Type 01 will enter global markets in the first half of 2027. It will compete with models such as the Ferrari Luce, Audi e-tron GT, Porsche Taycan, and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV.
