MG Motor India has established itself as one of Asia's leading producers of electric vehicles with the introduction of the Windsor EV. A prosperous holiday season in October 2024 contributed to the brand's biggest monthly sales since it first entered the Indian market.
When MG Motor India announced that 7,045 units had been sold in October 2024, the firm achieved a new milestone. This impressive performance highlights MG's rising appeal among Indian customers and represents a notable improvement over prior months and years.
With a volume rise of 1,937 units YoY and 2,457 units MoM, MG Motor India achieved an exceptional year-over-year (YoY) growth of 37.92% and month-over-month (MoM) growth of 53.55% in comparison to October 2023's sales of 5,108 units and September 2024's sales of 4,588 units.
Strong NEV Contribution to Total Sales
New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) accounted for an unprecedented 70% of MG Motor India's October 2024 sales mix, a significant rise over the 49% NEV sales mix in September 2024. This change demonstrates the brand's successful transformation to electric mobility, which has been fueled by factors including the growing demand for EVs and the decline in sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
As MG's flagship model, the Windsor EV has made a substantial contribution to the company's 70% NEV share. The model's appeal in the Indian market was demonstrated by the more than 15,000 bookings it got on its first day. MG has positioned the Windsor EV as a cost-effective and alluring choice for customers interested in environmentally friendly mobility by providing
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) solutions.
Sales of ICE vehicles fell in September 2024, particularly for the Hector model, which witnessed a YoY reduction of over 50% and a MoM decline of 23.93%, while sales of NEVs surged. This pattern illustrates MG's growing emphasis on electric cars to satisfy consumer demand and follow worldwide auto trends.
Windsor EV’s Impact on EV Market
The Windsor EV's success shows MG Motor India's dedication to growing its EV line with affordable prices and creative subscription packages. With its crossover utility vehicle (CUV) design and BaaS possibilities, the Windsor EV has raised the bar for electric vehicles in India.
MG Motor India sets a standard for other automakers by attaining 70% NEV sales, which not only fits with current automotive trends but also positions the company as a pioneer in the EV industry. MG is well-positioned to continue playing a major role in the restructuring of the Indian automotive sector as long as it keeps investing in electric mobility.
