The Indian automotive and defence communities have come together for a powerful new chapter in motorcycling history as the Shaurya Vijay Yatra sets off to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas 2026. Flagged off by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, the commemorative ride puts Jawa and Yezdi motorcycles at the heart of a 1,900 km tribute.

Over 13 days, 28 riders drawn from serving and retired defence personnel and families of martyrs will navigate demanding Himalayan terrain to reach the Kargil War Memorial in Dras, Ladakh. Riding under the motto “One Ride, One Nation, One Salute”, the convoy will carry sacred soil from the National War Memorial, symbolising India’s collective gratitude to generations of war heroes everywhere.

Honouring Kargil’s Bravehearts

At its core, Shaurya Vijay Yatra is a moving memorial to the soldiers who secured victory in the 1999 Kargil War and upheld the honour of the Tricolour in some of India’s toughest battlefields. The presence of the next of kin of martyrs on the saddle makes the expedition deeply personal, transforming every kilometre into a ride of remembrance and respect.

Along the route, riders will felicitate Veer Naris, acknowledging the quiet strength of families who have lived the cost of sacrifice first-hand. The ceremonial carrying of sacred soil from the National War Memorial to Kargil symbolises a bridge between generations of soldiers, linking past campaigns with today’s guardians of the frontier.

Route and Riding Experience

The 13-day journey threads together some of the Indian Army’s most revered memorials, including Chandimandir, Rezang La and the Leh War Memorial, before culminating at the Kargil War Memorial on 26 July 2026. This carefully chosen route lets riders trace the contours of India’s military history while experiencing the demanding terrain that has shaped it.

Covering roughly 1,900 km through the northern Himalayas, the expedition blends high-altitude motorcycling with solemn ceremonial stops, creating a ride that is equal parts adventure and homage. For participants, every ascent and hairpin is a reminder of the soldiers who once climbed these heights under fire rather than throttle.

Jawa and Yezdi at the Heart of the Tribute

JawaYezdi Motorcycles first conceived this tribute ride in 2021 to bring the wider motorcycling community closer to the stories of India’s valiant soldiers. Since then, Shaurya Vijay Yatra has grown into an annual tradition that fuses the brand’s performance-classic ethos with a deep sense of national pride and gratitude.

This year’s expedition fields an all-enthusiast line-up from the Jawa and Yezdi garages: Jawa 350, Jawa 42, Jawa 42 FJ, Yezdi Adventure and Yezdi Scrambler. The mix of retro-inspired roadsters and purpose-built adventure machines not only showcases the portfolio but also underlines their capability in real-world, high-altitude conditions.

Voices from Classic Legends

For Classic Legends Co-founder Anupam Thareja, the Yatra is as much about values as it is about kilometres and machines. He describes the expedition as a way to help today’s generation remember Kargil’s heroes and their families and to introduce young riders to the ideals of valour, discipline, resolve and selflessness that define true heroism.

Thareja emphasises that riding in solidarity with the Indian Armed Forces is a privilege for the brand and its community, framing the journey as a collective homage rather than a mere branded ride. In that sense, the motorcycles become storytellers on wheels, carrying forward narratives of courage instead of just badges and logos.

Inspiring the Next Generation

The flag-off ceremony itself set the tone, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined by Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth, senior military officials, veterans and guests. The presence of National Cadet Corps contingents underlined the Yatra’s role in inspiring youth to honour soldiers not only in memory but also through lived value.
