Kawasaki is preparing a significant update for its Ninja H2 motorcycle, according to recent emissions filings. The 2027 Ninja H2 will feature the same 197 HP peak output as the Z H2 SE, marking a notable change from the current model’s higher power figures. This move aligns with tightening emissions regulations and signals a shift in Kawasaki’s approach to its supercharged lineup.
Key Highlights
- The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja H2 will match the Z H2 SE with a 197 HP peak output.
- EPA and CARB filings confirm engine and exhaust updates for emissions compliance.
- Australian documents suggest new model codes for Ninja H2 and H2 Carbon.
- Track-only Ninja H2R remains unchanged at 322 HP and is not subject to emissions rules.
- No indication the updated Ninja H2 will be launched in India.
Engine and Emissions Updates
The Kawasaki Ninja H2 made history over a decade ago as one of the first production motorcycles with a supercharged engine. Its 998cc inline-four initially produced up to 240 HP at 11,500 rpm. The upcoming 2027 model, however, will adopt the ZH2 SE’s lower state of tune, delivering 197 HP at 10,500 rpm. This adjustment is confirmed by filings with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
The ZH2 SE, a naked version of the supercharged lineup, already uses this detuned engine. The change in the Ninja H2’s output brings it in line with the Z H2 SE, likely to comply with stricter emissions standards. Supporting this, a separate California Air Resources Board (CARB) filing shows the 2027 Ninja H2 will use the same exhaust system as the Z H2 SE. This includes a secondary catalytic converter, further indicating Kawasaki’s efforts to meet regulatory requirements.
Model Codes and Global Availability
Australian homologation documents reveal that the 2027 Ninja H2 and H2 Carbon will have new model codes. This change suggests Kawasaki may introduce a more comprehensive update beyond just engine retuning. However, no additional details about the nature of these updates have been released.
The track-only Ninja H2R, known for its 322 HP output, does not appear to be affected by these changes. Since it is not road legal, the H2R is exempt from the emissions regulations that apply to the standard Ninja H2. Kawasaki retains flexibility in developing the H2R, which remains its most powerful motorcycle.
Market Position and Indian Portfolio
The Ninja H2 is not available for sale in India. However, its sport-touring sibling, the Ninja H2 SX SE, is listed on Kawasaki India's website. The H2 SX SE remains a MY25 model, while several other Kawasaki models have already been updated to MY27 specifications. Although Kawasaki is expected to expand its Indian lineup with new global models next year, there is no indication that the updated Ninja H2 will be included.

CarBike 360 Says
With the anticipated adoption of the Z H2 SE engine tune, the 2027 Kawasaki Ninja H2 could strike a stronger balance between raw performance and refined rideability. This update signals Kawasaki’s intent to evolve its flagship supercharged machine while keeping it competitive, appealing to enthusiasts seeking both cutting-edge engineering and everyday usability in a high-performance package.
