Kia India will expand its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the Syros EV in July. The Syros was designed from the start with electric vehicle characteristics, not as a conversion from a petrol or diesel SUV. Its blanked-off grille, flat front and rear profiles, and aerodynamic alloy wheels give it a futuristic look. These features appeal to EV buyers who value modern design and technology-focused aesthetics.

Design and Interior Features

The upcoming 2026 Kia Syros EV stands out with its unconventional styling, targeting customers who want individuality in their vehicles. Unlike traditional SUV buyers, EV customers often seek unique designs. The Syros' exterior and interior both reflect this approach. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalistic and modern layout, different from other Kia models. The dashboard and center console are clean and futuristic, and the flat rear floor maximizes space. Material choices and layout focus on openness and practicality, aligning with expectations from a dedicated EV platform.

The Syros' interior offers space optimization, simplicity, and a technology-driven environment. These traits are typically associated with electric vehicles rather than internal combustion engine (ICE) models. The Syros, in its current ICE form, has struggled in the Indian market. Its unique design has not resonated with buyers who prefer conventional SUV styling. This has limited its appeal in the ICE segment, even though it could be a strength in the EV market.

Market Position and Pricing

The Syros ICE version faces challenges beyond design. Its powertrain options do not deliver the fuel efficiency Indian buyers expect. In a market where fuel economy is a key factor, this has affected its popularity. The Syros is priced between Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 19 lakh on-road. Many buyers are choosing more established alternatives in this price range, such as higher variants of other models that offer a familiar value proposition.

The upcoming Syros EV could change this scenario. If priced between Rs. 12 lakh and Rs. 20 lakh, it would offer a claimed range of 300km to 400km on a full charge. This would position it as a strong contender against other electric models, especially for buyers who prioritize cabin space and practicality. With the Carens Clavis EV priced at Rs. 17 lakh and above, the Syros EV could effectively fill the gap in the market.

The Syros' unconventional design and modern interior would better align with EV buyer expectations. This shift could turn its current drawbacks into advantages. The Syros appears to have been ahead of its time in design but was offered with the wrong powertrain. The electric version now gives Kia the chance to reposition the Syros as a forward-thinking urban EV, targeting the audience it was originally meant for.

CarBike 360 Says

With the Syros EV, Kia is clearly sharpening its focus on India’s fast-evolving electric SUV space. By combining a familiar yet EV‑centric design with modern tech, practical range and expected competitive pricing, the Syros EV aims to bridge the gap between entry‑level and premium electric SUVs. For many buyers, it could be the most sensible step into everyday electric mobility.
