Mahindra Plans Production Increase for XEV 9S Electric SUV Amid High Demand
Mahindra will ramp up XEV 9S electric SUV production to meet strong demand, with current output at over 6,000 units monthly. Planned expansions, including a new Nagpur plant, aim to boost capacity and support new electric models.

Mahindra is set to boost production of its all-electric XEV 9S SUV in response to rising demand and current capacity limits. The XEV 9S, built on Mahindra’s Inglo platform, has seen strong interest since its late 2025 launch, with deliveries starting earlier this year. Thousands of orders have been received in a short time, but manufacturing constraints are slowing output.
Key Highlights
- Mahindra to increase XEV 9S electric SUV production in response to high demand
- Current BEV output is over 6000 units monthly with capacity expected to reach 8000 units
- New Nagpur facility and phased expansions will boost future production capabilities
- Mahindra targets 20 percent EV share in sales within five years
- Upcoming models include BE.07 and additions to the Born Electric lineup
Currently, Mahindra produces just over 6,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) each month. The company’s installed capacity is expected to reach about 8,000 units monthly soon. Mahindra plans to address production bottlenecks over the next four to five months, which should allow for higher output.
Production Expansion Plans
Mahindra is preparing for further expansion, with new capacity to be added in phases. Some of this capacity will support upcoming electric models, including the BE.07 concept, which is scheduled for production in the next few years. The company is also developing a new greenfield manufacturing facility in Nagpur. This plant is expected to significantly increase production capabilities when it becomes operational later in the decade.
Mahindra’s electric vehicle portfolio is a key part of its long-term strategy. Currently, EVs make up a modest share of the company’s total sales. However, Mahindra aims to raise this share to nearly 20 percent over the next five years. This effort aligns with stricter fuel efficiency standards under CAFE III, set to take effect from FY2028.
Future Electric Vehicle Roadmap
Mahindra’s electric roadmap includes several new models across different segments. The company plans to launch multiple electric vehicles by the end of the decade. The Born Electric lineup already features the XEV 9S, XEV 9e, and BE 6 models. The upcoming BE.07 will further expand the range.
With demand for electric SUVs increasing and competition growing, Mahindra’s ability to scale production efficiently is crucial. The company’s planned production ramp-up and continued investment in EV infrastructure show a clear commitment to strengthening its position in India’s electric vehicle market.
The next few months will be important as Mahindra works to balance customer demand with supply while growing its EV portfolio. Addressing current constraints and expanding capacity will be key to meeting its long-term goals.
