Maruti Suzuki is set to launch a full-hybrid variant of the iconic WagonR in India in 2025. As one of the country’s best selling compact cars since 1999, the upcoming fourth-generation model aims to set new benchmarks in fuel efficiency and affordability. Powered by a 666cc three-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, the hybrid setup is expected to deliver around 30+ km/l, significantly enhancing fuel economy over the existing petrol and CNG variants.
This full-hybrid powertrain will feature an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission (eCVT), optimising both performance and mileage. The Japan-spec model provides insight into potential dimensions and design upgrades, including compact size adjustments and unique sliding doors. Indian models are anticipated to retain a practical, family-friendly design with significant improvements in mileage to compete with hybrid offerings in the compact segment.
While full-hybrid vehicles are typically more costly, Maruti Suzuki plans to keep the price accessible, targeting an initial cost of around INR 7-10 lakh, slightly higher than the current WagonR range. This pricing approach aims to expand hybrid technology access in India, positioning WagonR as a greener, more fuel-efficient option among entry-level vehicles.
With growing focus on hybrid and electric mobility in India, the full-hybrid WagonR could pioneer a shift within the affordable compact car segment, allowing more consumers to adopt fuel-saving technology. As Maruti Suzuki aligns with environmental goals, this move reflects broader shifts in India's auto market toward sustainable transportation solutions.
