With over 400 patent filings in areas like powertrains, thermal management, and battery systems, MATTER stands out among EV startups. These innovations aren't just on paper; they power real-world rides, providing better performance, dependability, and cost savings to regular commuters.

Innovation Journey

Founded in 2019, MATTER tackled tough challenges head-on, from thermal safety in scorching summers to precise rider control in electric drivetrains. Early prototypes evolved into the AERA, their flagship geared electric motorcycle that blends mechanical engineering, power electronics, and smart software.

Unlike many competitors, MATTER's patents directly enhance products on the road. Riders experienced this in 2025, clocking over 21 lakh kilometers across 1.37 lakh rides, with 56 lakh gear shifts in temperatures from 3°C to 48°C. This real-world data fuels ongoing improvements in drivetrains and energy optimization.

The MATTER AERA shines with a top speed of 124 kmph. Moreover, the bike can reach 0 to 60 kmph in just 4.2 seconds and lean angles up to 59 degrees, numbers proven in hypermiling runs hitting 226 km on a single charge. Riders report journeys up to 182 km, saving up to Rs 65,000 annually on running costs.

Its liquid-cooled system and four-speed gearbox keep things cool and efficient, even in extreme heat. This setup reintroduces the thrill of motorcycling to EVs, setting AERA apart in a market dominated by simpler scooters.

From The Director’s Desk

Speaking about the milestone, Mr. Mohal Lalbhai said, "Surpassing 100 granted patents demonstrates that India can lead in original EV innovations and technology. We are not adapting existing platforms, but building technology that redefines how electric motorcycles perform, feel, and deliver value to riders.”

Market Outlook

MATTER's efforts earned it the Best Patents Portfolio in the Startup Category from the Confederation of Indian Industry in 2024, plus 2025 awards like EV Bike of the Year from ACKO Drive. AERA also grabbed Editor's Choice from Top Gear India, highlighting its innovative edge.

MATTER's IP strength, from motors to AI vehicle controls, positions it as a deep-tech leader. With plans for AI-driven platforms and new models across segments, the company is accelerating toward sustainable mobility.
