The test mule sightings have provided the first look at the SUV’s design elements, which include a dual-pod projector LED headlight setup, LED daytime running lights (DRLs) positioned above and below the headlights, and a honeycomb mesh grille. These features closely resemble those found on the Wuling Starlight PHEV, a model currently available in international markets. In contrast, the all-electric version of the Starlight replaces this grille with a blanked-off panel. Additional visible features on the test vehicle include a front camera module and a radar-based advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) sensor, indicating a focus on safety and driver assistance technologies.
Design, Features, and International Specifications
The Wuling Starlight, which serves as the basis for the upcoming MG SUV, is offered as a three-row vehicle overseas. Its interior is characterized by a minimalist dashboard, highlighted by a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display. The steering wheel features a two-spoke design, and most controls, including those for the air conditioning, are integrated into the infotainment screen. Physical buttons are limited to the steering wheel, a slim strip on the center console, and the door armrests.
While MG has yet to reveal the final specifications for the India-specific version, the international Wuling Starlight is available in both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric (EV) variants. The PHEV model is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 106 horsepower, paired with a 20.5 kWh battery pack. This combination drives the front wheels and delivers a total system output of 197 HP and 230 Nm of torque.
Performance and Range

According to the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), the PHEV version of the Wuling Starlight boasts a claimed all-electric range of 100 kilometers, with a total range of up to 1,100 kilometers when both the petrol engine and electric motor are utilized. The manufacturer states that the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour.

As MG accelerates its electrification push, the codenamed 520 PHEV SUV emerges as a game-changer for India's hybrid market, blending a potent 197 HP powertrain with an impressive 100 km electric range and competitive pricing.
