Nissan India has set a new benchmark in terms of safety standards in India. The made-in-India Nissan Magnite has now achieved an outstanding milestone by earning a 5-star rating from the Global NCAP in the latest crash tests. These ratings were given on the grounds of multiple safety tests under different crash iterations. This also signifies a remarkable improvement for the subcompact SUV, which had scored just a 2-star rating previously for the same crash test.
Nissan has definitely worked on the Magnite safety standards, and it has become among the safest vehicles in its segment—a major boost for both the automaker and safety-conscious buyers.
Nissan Magnite: The journey from Modest to Masterclass
The Nissan Magnite officially debuted in 2020. Later on, the car was originally tested in 2022 under the Global NCAP for safety ratings. The 2020 model received a 4-star rating for adult occupant protection and a 2-star rating for child occupant protection. The base model of the car, which was available as standard, offers only 2 airbags for Indian customers. The car even lacked advanced safety features at that time.
When the Global NCAP introduced strict protocols to review each car under various testing iterations for every existing automotive brand. These new protocols were to be followed by every brand and also include side impact and more stringent standards. In the following years, many brands have now improved their car's safety standards. However, Nissan's Magnite ratings were going further down.
Safety Upgrades
As per the very low score at the Global NCAP, Magnite got negative feedback. The sales went down, and the brand image also came under question among the Indian customers. Then Nissan took the oath to bring the all-new Magnite with all improved design and safety features. The first major upgrade that the car received was the introduction of 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Control. This new upgrade did not make any huge impact, but yes, they were now rated as 4-star on NCAP.
Underneath the design, Nissan decided to make an all-new improved chassis system. The brand started introducing new safety elements during the second round of testing. Now the car has an enhanced restraint system, pedestrian protection features, and 3-point seatbelts mandatory for all passengers. These made the vehicle fall under 3-star ratings for child occupant protection.

- Pedestrian Protection Measures
With all these measures, the car finally received 5-star ratings for adult protection and 4-star ratings for child occupant protection. These ratings were implemented on both cars that were sold in India and South Africa too.
Conclusion
As per the latest reports, the Nissan Magnite has improved its safety standards. This signifies a strong message to its rivals, especially Maruti Suzuki, that the brands should not make compromises on the safety and precautions for customers. Nissan's commitment has proved that the brand can make its vehicles best-in-class even in the entry-level segment. This leap from a once-underwhelming score to a full five-star rating reflects not just technical prowess but also Nissan’s willingness to adapt quickly to evolving standards.
