One-Third of Hyundai Buyers Say Yes to Digital Key, Signaling a Shift in Mobility Trends
Hyundai’s Digital Key is quickly gaining traction in India, with one in three customers choosing keyless convenience over traditional keys.

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has recently announced the report recorded by them that states that one-third of Hyundai buyers choose a digital key over a traditional entry key, while choosing it as a must-have feature. The new Hyundai buyers are embraced by the brand’s cutting-edge Digital Key technology. This shows how convenience and tech-savvy consumers are reshaping automotive lifestyles in an economically rapid growth.
Hyundai launched the Digital Key feature a year ago, and this feature has transformed the way Indians interact with their vehicles. Using NFC-enabled smartphones and smartwatches, customers can unlock, start, and even share their car’s key virtually. With tech enthusiasts, customers resonate with the feature, Hyundai’s commitment to making premium innovations, and ease of convenience.
Rapid Adoption Across Models
The Digital Key feature launched back in September 2024 in the Hyundai Alcazar and was later extended to the Creta Electric models in January 2025. Once the feature was implemented, 33% of car owners signed up for the digital key feature, along with the traditional key. The Alcazar and Creta Electric are the leaders in their field, enabling customers with tech features that were limited to luxury brands.
From the Director’s Desk
As per the latest reports, Hyundai’s Managing Director, Mr. Unsoo Kim, commented on such growing acceptance of technological features, “At Hyundai Motor India, innovation is driven by purpose, offering meaningful solutions that elevate customer satisfaction. As the first OEM to launch connected car technology in India back in 2019, we remain committed to offering premium features for Indian customers.”
What is a digital key, and how does it function?
The enhanced digital key feature works through the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology. It enables users to generate a virtual key on their mobile device using the Hyundai Bluelink app, replacing the need for a physical key. Hyundai owners can create their Digital Key on a compatible smartphone or via a dedicated NFC card available as an accessory.
Sharing is the New Driving
Around 35% of users are actively sharing their digital key with family, friends, or drivers. Owners can grant access to up to three people or link seven devices at a time and revoke permissions instantly if required. This flexibility personalizes ownership and adds a layer of practicality that resonates with multi-user Indian households.
Conclusion
For many first-time buyers, Hyundai’s Digital Key is more than a convenience. It’s a glimpse into the future of car ownership. With over two-thirds (68%) of Digital Key users accessing the feature via iOS devices and 32% through Android, Hyundai’s adoption base is tech-diverse. As demand grows, HMIL is set to expand Digital Key availability across more models in the future, signaling that the traditional car key may soon be a relic of the past.
