Hyundai Motor India today is celebrating a historical moment as its flagship SUV, the Creta, completes 10 years on Indian roads. The first variant of Hyundai India was launched in July 2015, and the car quickly became one of the best-selling SUVs in India. Since its launch, Creta has fulfilled the needs of what Indian customers expect from an SUV.
The Creta’s journey has not only been about strong numbers but also about setting new benchmarks and redefining the expectations from a mid-size SUV. The car sales depend upon the array of trust, innovation, and leadership. The sales figures underline the impact, with 1.2 million units sold in India alone. The SUV currently holds a market share of over 31% in its segment.
The Hyundai Creta debuted in July 2025 and quickly emerged as the best-selling mid-size SUV in the market. It created a buzz for the entry-level mid-size SUV that beat up the sales of sedans. The Creta became a driving symbol of reliability and the aura of styling.
Hyundai had only released the two generations of Creta, the latest in 2020. In 2020, 12% of buyers were first-time car owners. With such significant figures, Hyundai demonstrated its wide range of development, enhanced powertrains, and even brought the electric version of the Creta, which will be launching soon.
Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “The journey of Hyundai Creta is deeply emotional, not just for us, but for every customer who made it a part of their lives. It stood for dreams, freedom, and progress. Creta is not just a product; it is a revolution on wheels. Over the past 10 years, it has become the gold standard for the Indian SUV buyer.
Every milestone in Creta’s journey reflects Hyundai’s commitment to innovation, quality, and customer-first thinking. As we mark 10 years of Creta in India, we celebrate a movement that changed the way India drives SUVs. We are humbled by the love, trust, and loyalty our customers have shown us, and we remain committed to raising the bar, always.”
The sales not only surged in India but also have been exported 287,000 to 13 different countries. Considering its leadership in the market, the car's annual sales have more than doubled since its launch, from 92,926 units in CY 2016 to 186,919 units in CY 2024. 70% contribution of sunroof-powered variants from January 2025 to June 2025.
Numbers don't lie, nor does the satisfaction of customers after buying the product. This statement truly defines the emotional connection of the buyers with the Hyundai Creta. The SUV stands as a craftsmanship of success and relentless innovation and advancement.
