The 2022 Polestar Design Contest from the house of Polestar has begun, with the year's subject being "Performance." A venue for ambitious professionals and student designers to develop ideas for potential polestar designs, the competition was initially offered in 2020. As of right now, participants can submit their entries online through Polestar's website; the deadline for submission is August 31, 2022. Following the completion of all entries, Polestar will select two winners: one for exterior design and one for interior design. A full-size 1:1 scale model of the winning design will be displayed on the Polestar booth at one of the greatest auto exhibitions, the Auto Shanghai, in April 2023.
The competition's finalists will be announced on November 1 and the winners will be announced on November 11, 2022.As Polestar's Head of Design Maximilian Missoni puts it, "For a design to be shown on the international stage in much the same way as one of Polestar's own concept cars is a money-can't-buy opportunity for any designer." "We want to promote innovative design and the individuals that make it happen. What better way to accomplish that than to take center stage at one of the biggest car events in the world to unveil a full-size model of their creation?"

According to Polestar, since the design competition's beginning in 2020, a "range of vehicles and cutting-edge concepts" have been submitted from all around the world. These featured a car that minimizes pollution using externally visible air filters, an electric and helium airship, a luxury yacht, and prosthetic springboard blades for walking. Pure and Progressive were the themes from the preceding two years.

"I think this year's "Performance" topic will pique the interest of a design community that has thus far responded to our Design Contest in an incredibly imaginative manner, "explains Juan Pablo Bernal, Polestar's interior designer and the man behind the Polestar Design Competition. "The variety of submissions that continue to capture the essence of our brand in such an alluring way has greatly impressed me. We anticipate that this year will be no different because the high-consumption performance of the 20th century is no longer the norm, and we are searching for design concepts that reflect this change.”
Participants are not compelled to share their car ideas, according to Polestar, even if all entries must be Polestars. Polestar's designers will provide one-on-one mentoring to the shortlisted contestants, and the business will support the digital modeling of the finalists and produce hard models of the winning concepts.
